How to get 9wo baby to stay asleep for longer?

Any advice welcome as I'm a first time mum and completely winging it!

My 9 week old baby girl won't stay asleep when she's put down. If she's on someone or in bed with me, she will sleep hours and barely stir.

I have no issues getting her to sleep and then transferring her (night time and day naps included) but she won't stay asleep. Usually only 10 mins, 30 mins is often the max I can get from her!

She's swaddled and I use white noise. I then have to rock and shh her to try get her back to sleep. Sometimes it works but often not.

Any tips? Thank you!!

Not really any advice but I feel you!! I have an 11 week old son and he was exactly the same at around 9 weeks. Then with the click of a finger, he’s just started “allowing” me to put him in his crib and then sleeps for a good few hours between feeds! I hate to say it, but there may be nothing you can do. You just got to ride it out for a bit. It’s crazy how 2 weeks makes a difference.

Prior to him settling well, I did co-sleep a bit in the night. I did a lot of research- may be something you want to look into. There are risks but I found me not sleeping for hours on end was also a risk - actually went dizzy on the stairs once!!!! Thinking about it, this may have got him used to our room a bit? It may have made him feel comfortable? Who knows?

He still won’t let me put him down for long during the day so unless we’re out and about, it’s Mummy cuddles and I’m fine with that haha!
Apparently their circadian rhythm sorts night time sleeping first, then day time naps.

However, apparently you just get them into some sort of cycle and the 4-month regression hits and you start all over again.

Good luck!

Hey thanks for replying! We are now 10 weeks and still no long stretch 😂 yeah we are co sleeping for some of the night so I can sleep a bit better and not lose my sanity!!
Out of interest how much does your little one weigh? I've found a lot more online lately around their sleep and it being more weight based rather than age (I.e bigger the baby, bigger their stomach, longer they are full for! Which makes so much sense) and I have a very small baby 🥴😂 xx

Aah bless you! Mine is on the lower percentile apparently. He’s just over 11lbs.
Are you breastfeeding as that could also be a big factor? We mix feed and it does help! Mine drinks me dry some days and still isn’t happy!

It’s so hard because every baby is different!

I’ve been told that their weight is the main factor too. My baby‘s breastfed and we found that if we gave her a bottle of expressed morning milk (better quality than evening apparently), she would do a much longer stretch. That’s on top of usual on demand breastfeeds btw. She was on 5 hour stints at night by 6 weeks. No advice on the day naps though, it’s a nightmare getting her to stay down in the day!

Aah it’s so funny you say @Robin223 - I learnt that our evening milk has a sedative-type element in it, whereas the morning has the opposite so you should avoid giving morning milk in the evenings as it wakes them up? Could be complete nonsense! There’s so much information out there. It’s hard to know what’s right!
