My newborn sleeps! And I'm worried about it!

My baby #2 is 9 weeks old.

He didn't sleep for two nights when he was born and since night 3 he's woken for two feeds nightly for 10 mins or so then right back to sleep.

The last week I've fed him when I go to bed at 10, he's woken at 3.30 for a quick feed then back down til 7am.

EBF.

He also sleeps most of the day still with a couple of hours awake time in the evening.

Obviously this is amazing, total contrast to #1 who didn't sleep til he was 2 and still doesn't sleep much now.

I'm happy of course but genuinely concerned today that he's sleeping too much?! Surely this isn't normal for a newborn?

Not a stealth boast promise!!!

DC2 was like this until about 8 weeks, would wake for a feed, smile a bit and then go back to sleep, absolute dream. He was a big baby too.

My DS1 did exactly this but then I found out he had an underactive thyroid. He was a bit on the low side his heel prick test. He was tested again at 1 month old and it was worse. On the first test he had been getting it from me whilst in my womb and it's a long lasting hormone. Then he was moved on to 25mg of Levothyroxine. I had to crush it up between 2 teaspoons and flick it into his mouth as he spat the whole tablet up. I'd ask to get him checked out with a blood test if it continues with him sleeping all day too. I had to wake my son up after about 5 hours to bf.

Enjoy it. Mine was like this. I used to Google how much sleep was to sleep because I was worried. Now he’s hit four months and it’s like a switch has flipped and he’s awake many, MANY times a night and a nightmare to nap. Can’t believe how quickly things have changed. I really hope this doesn’t happen to you, but just in case it does then just try to enjoy the sleep while you can without worrying!

Unicorn baby. I had one too. My second. EBF, super chunky, slept 10-5 pretty much every night from 8 weeks old. Was in a routine from about the same time. She was also super chunky so not sure if that made a difference.

My DD was like this. She loved to sleep. She slept through right from the get go. As a child she never got up early on Christmas morning or her birthday. She just prefers to sleep. She's a teenager now and still she sleeps... just enjoy your calm sleeping baby.
