How long did the four month sleep regression last for you?

We are knee deep in the four month sleep regression and I’m wondering how long it lasted for you?

With DS1, once he stopped sleeping at four months he woke every two hours every single night until he turned one. Surely, SURELY we can’t be in for a repeat of that. I barely coped last time, definitely can’t with a toddler in tow.

Also any hints / tips / tricks? I’ve probably read them all already but you never know.

Four years. I nearly died of tiredness.

Around a month I think. We introduced a strict routine with set wake windows which really helped a lot.

Our regression was worse than yours though, he woke up every 40 minutes and I was ebf, I would've killed for 2 hours solid sleep.

Around 5 months he started waking 1-2 times a night, slept through the night from 7-9 months and then woke once a night from 9 months until 20 months when he finally went back to sleeping through the night.

@shivawn It’s not a competition, and I’m not getting two hours solid sleep. It’s roughly two hours between feeds, that’s from start of one feed until the next feed. How much sleep in between that varies, and some nights it is less than two hours, I just used it as a rough approximation. I would kill to have just 1 or 2 wakes from 5 months old!

@GinnyBee That sounds very similar to my experience with DS1, hoping I don’t have a repeat of it this time around but not looking promising!

@Petrie99 Yeah I say four months, he’s not actually four months yet but this started around 14 weeks. He won’t be going into his own room at six months as will be sharing with DS1 so will basically be moving him only once his sleep is a lot better.

I think regression started around the same time as you, 14 weeks. Before that he had JUST started to only wake twice a night and sleep 5-6 hours in one go.

Then we went through a fortnight where every other night or third night he'd be awake every 90 minutes or so. It wasn't every night which gave me hope but when it did happen it absolutely sucked.

He's 24 weeks this week coming and we're back to 2 proper wakes for feeds, but after 4am I've got little hope of getting him back to sleep properly. He's just fussy for 2 hours until I throw in the towel and get up 😪 on the bright side naps have really improved, he won't sleep independently but if I contact nap he can do 60-90 minutes now which is a damn sight better than the 20-30 he was doing and still waking tired in the throes of it around 14 weeks.

I'm sick of talking to mothers whose babies have slept through since 12 weeks.

So to answer your question it was hell for a couple of weeks but it's still pretty shit now and I'm not sure if we're through it or not!

I wasn't trying to make it a competition. I thought you were looking for people to share their experiences so I was just sharing mine. 🤷 He had extremely frequent wake ups but his regression didn't last as long as some others did.
