Daytime sleeps for 4 month old - am I worrying for nothing?

My 4 month old DD sleeps great at night - goes down like a beauty at around 6.45pm then after a dream feed before I go to bed she either sleeps through til about 6.30/7am (rare), or more commonly wakes at around 4am for a quick feed (I can be back in bed within 15 minutes)and then goes straight back to sleep again until 7am. I think this is pretty good, so I don;t want to compain - but the day time is a different story!
She only ever naps for about 20 - 30 minutes at a time, and without any real pattern to the times of naps. She rarely settles herself to sleep during the day unless I take her out - I have to watch for the cues then settle her, but she is always awake again within this short time. This "lunchtime" nap of 1-2 hours has eluded me since she was about 8 weeks old.

I'm not massively concerned at the moment as she seems really happy and is always in a good mood during the day. My worry though (besides not having any time to get much done until the evening by which time I am knackered) is whether this is going to lead to problems later on as I would rather she had one longer nap when she is a bit older like most small children seem to do??

Any thoughts?

This is what my 9 month old is still doing! I've read all the books which say that she should kip for at least an hour otherwise her head might fall off or something stupid like that but it never has done and she is happy, and bright and sleeps through the night so I'm not complaining! I've tried so hard, so many times to get her to sleep longer to no avail. Getting her off to sleep is still a trial during the days sometimes but I've got used to it!
There's nothing wrong, on another thread we figured out that it was a)mainly girls who do this and b)that it was a definate sign of intelligence! DD's sleep has altered so much so many times over the last few months that to worry about what probs this might bring up in the future would just drive me mad. My advice is to go with it, if she's happy, and do the washing up in the evening!

I wouldn't worry about it, my DD (4mths)has only started to sleep 2 hours in the day coz she sleeps in her cot now rather than her bouncer. My DS used to wake her up unintentionally when playing.

If she is happy then dont push it. You can still do some of the household chores, i'm sure she would love it. DD always watches me wash up, just turn it into a singing session or talk to her, she will love to just watch and listen to you talk. She will also learn alot by watching you do the most boring of jobs. Dancing at the sink often gets a laugh out of DD and a dancing partner from myDS!! ha ha ha

thanks both - I can recognise some truth in what you say kaballie - from my ante natal group we had three boys and four girls. Whilst one of the girls is too small to know yet, the other 3 girls are all very awake during the day whilst all 3 boys do nothing but sleep!
Do you know where that thread is? I'd love a read so I can reassure myself when I'm doing the saily entertainment circuit of playmat to my knees to swing seat to baby gym to bouncy chair and back around again LOL!

can't remember where it was, sorry but to reassure you, we are DEFINATELY not the only ones! It's the fault of those bloody books that we think we're getting it wrong, have to keep telling yourself that it's the books that are wrong and that if they needed more sleep, they'd get it! It does get easier as they get older and are able to entertain themselves more, I promise!

My 7 month old has never slept more than 45 mins at a time, and he is happy!!! The pattern with naps comes as they geta bit older, I remember when my son was his age, he would just sleep at really strange times in the day. I used to put him in his bouncy chair and carry him round the house so I could get stuff done.
