Stopped dummy now 2yo refuses naps

Hi all,

We removed dummy from DS a week before 2nd birthday. Absolutely traumatic experience, and had I known what to expect I probably would have left it till later. 3 weeks down the line he still asks for it and has found ice lollies somewhat fill the gap and if he’s not whinging for his dummy, its a tantrum for an ice lolly. I read everywhere that they ask for it for a few days and its all good, so not sure where we went wrong.

Anyway, without it, he absolutely refuses his naps. He is definitely not ready to drop a nap, his eyes are watery and sleepy by 1. He also ends up knocking out within the first 5 minutes on our 30 minute journey home when collecting him after work ( around 5-5:30) which results in a 11pm bedtime.

He is absolutely definitely not ready to drop the nap. We went to grab a drink from a cafe and stood in the queue, next thing I know he was sleeping standing up next to me. Popped into my mums for tea and fell asleep during a nappy change!

But no matter what I or whoever is looking after him does, we just can not get him to nap. He screams, he fights, he tantrums and we end up giving up. He is 2 and 2 weeks. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. I just feel like an absolute failure and that I failed him by removing his dummy when he wasn’t ready.

I bit a hole in my DS dummy so he still had it but lost the joy so he dumped it himself the next day

The terrible twos are hideous btw and there's not much you can do really other than have nerves of steel and never take it personally

If he only uses it for naps/bedtime give it back. Doesn't matter. I've just posted on another dummy thread - my DS was 4 and gave his up himself. Never used it while up and about just for sleeping.
