I’m almost hallucinating with lack of sleep.
Been on my own all week and he’s not slept for more than a 20 min block after midnight all week and now is not yet asleep after bedtime at 7.
I know it’s warm but he’s dressed appropriately and never been a problem before. Previously slept well, woke for one bottle in the night. Possibly teething again but calpol made no difference. Nappies/eating etc all normal.
I don’t know what to do. Please help.

That sounds horrendous and I'm sorry that you haven't had any replies. How are things now?

Werewolfnotswearwolf · 26/06/2023 19:55

A few similar nights and then slept through til 4 last night! No idea what it was - weather maybe?
thanks so much for your reply - it’s hard isn’t it when everything’s out of perspective from lack of sleep!

Probably just the heat, I've been waking every hour last couple weeks! Teeth always possible. How are daytime naps? I'd expect around this age would be dropping to 1 longer nap each day so could also be this. Generally need an early lunch - 11.30 then long nap 12-2 ish, with possibly a quick catnap (15-20mins) in the morning at maybe 9.30 ish in buggy enroute to park/toddlers etc.
Everything is a stage, just remember it feels hard at the time but it will always pass.

This happened to my daughter at 14 months. She'd been a brilliant sleeper then suddenly stopped. She really suffered and became very emotional abd aggressive through lack of sleep - and I almost lost my mind! I'm afraid the only thing that worked was controlled crying (believe me I spent weeks trying all the gentle methods such as co-sleeping and gradual withdrawal but they didn't work). Controlled crying sorted her out in one night. She was SO much happier afterwards and for this reason I refuse to believe it was cruel.

My son did the same and I also had to go down the controlled crying route. He was fixed in two nights! It's not for everyone but I truly believe we need to teach our kids to sleep and this is the method that worked for me

Thanks everyone, good to know I’m not alone! Daytime naps have been awful too, seems like he’s trying to switch to 1 and he’s not quite ready - today he was up on and off between 1-3 slept til 6 then had an hours nap 12-1 and has only just gone to sleep again!

No idea how he’s doing it, he seems so chirpy!

This might sound mad but is he tall? My DF's DD was the same and it could just be normal baby behaviour but her HV pointed out the LO was tall and perhaps just needed more calories.

She suggested that instead of 3 big meals and 2 or 3 smaller snacks offering 5 or 6 small meals, like scrambled egg with chopped cherry tomatoes, cheese on toast, that kind of thing and do you know what? She slept through fro the first day.

Werewolfnotswearwolf · 27/06/2023 21:05

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto that’s interesting, he is tall but not particularly chunky and weight gain has slowed since he started moving and he is STARVING.

Today he’s had milk then breakfast, lunch, tea and two snacks at nursery and then toast, cheese, avo, fruit and yogurt when he got home and milk before bed -do you reckon he needs more?? We have dropped his afternoon bottle so I wonder if that is having an impact too.
