To wake a sleeping baby?

Hello, I have a 7 week old baby who has been asleep in their next/me crib since 7.20pm. They never usually sleep on their own at this time (witching hour / reflux issues), so normally sleep on me downstairs on and off all evening and then final feed at around 10, before going to bed at about 11 (in next2me)

Anyway, tonight they have slept in the next2me all evening! But now I want to go to bed and am conscious feeding / winding will take an hour or more. Normally she would definitely have fed during this time (last feed was at 6pm).. so do I wake DD up to feed her? Or leave her to sleep and wake up naturally?

It feels pointless me going to sleep now as surely she'll wake up soon ish as will be hungry..

Would love to know what other do / wills do! Tia!

Do you have a partner there? Go to bed! Get them to bring the baby for a feed when they wake then they can wind/change/put them back down. Tomorrow, if it is similar (may not be...) go to bed early so you get a few hours sleep in before the baby wakes.

Yes I do but he did the very early wake up this morning (4.30am) so it's his night to sleep in the spare room!

I do agree next time (if there is a next time 🤞) I'll sleep earlier!

I wouldn't wake. This might be the start of them sleeping for longer periods. Enjoy it!

Never wake a sleeping baby!! Feed her/him whenever she/he wakes up!!

I could never relax and sleep knowing they could wake up any minute so I'd lift and dream feed, change nappy and feed again hoping they'd settle back down and I'd get a few hours

Just be aware that if you are breastfeeding and she misses a feed, your boobs are likely to get full and uncomfortable. The first night DD slept through the night, I didn't, and was in a warm shower at 3am with milk squirting out of my nipples!

I'd do this

I would dream feed too…

santastolemycat · 08/06/2023 22:41

I would try a dream feed also. If it works it could be a plan going forward. I used to feed mine about 10/11 and that would fill him up for a good few hours

sunshineday223 · 08/06/2023 22:44

Okay thank you all, she's starting to stir a bit so I'm going to use this as an opportunity to dream feed - wish me luck!

Dream feed, no need to wake baby and the way they feed whilst asleep means they don’t need winding or nappy changing - fastest and most relaxing feeds ever
