Bit of background, DD's father and uncle (brothers) both experience quite extreme sleep activity. I've had conversations with DP when he's suddenly gotten up out of bed and I've asked if he's awake, to which he says yes. The next morning he'll have no recollection of any of it.

DD (13m) can appear to do similar things. She can appear to wake up, point at something and babble (like she does awake), sit herself up, and then next minute she's fast asleep again. She also screams in her sleep at least once a day and can become very confused and distressed if she wakes in the night (doesn't seem to realise who I am).

Does it sound like she's inherited some sleep issues from DP?

Does she have a tongue tie or breathe with her mouth open when she's asleep? It can cause night terrors in babies and small children and often tongue tie runs in families so your partner could have the same issue?

We had her tongue tie revised, it's inherited from me rather than her father and I don't have sleep activity. She doesn't mouth breathe when she sleeps, again I do and that's why I've been conscious to check periodically whether she does.

Glad you've got those things checked and that they're not the issue. Sounds like she's having night terrors which I think can be quite common in young children and sometimes babies. Hopefully she grows out of it
