Scheduled awakening

I wondered if anyone had any experience of using scheduled awakening - picking up your baby shortly before it's due to wake and feeding/comforting him, the idea being he then won't wake at his usual time. I'm considering it for my 5 month old who continues to wake 2-3hrly for bf, would be great to know how anyone's got on.

i've heard of this, but don't dare do it. my DD 18months has woken consistently at 5am since birth! there are people out there who swear by it though...

Mmmm, it does feel a bit dangerous waking him up - may be twice as many wake ups instead of less...

I tried it myself once. It backfired!

I only rver did this for the dreamfeed, as I'm sure it helped my first two sleep through the rest of the night.

I don' think it could make things any worse than 2-3hrly! Just - if you're breastfeeding - make sure you don't fall asleep with him on the breast, and end up with him on a feeding-to-sleep jag. That's a nightmare.

Hmm, I have fallen asleep once or twice when feeding, but may be less likely to do this if I've woken myself up than if I sleepwalk over to pick him up. I'm sure it's habit/comfort rather than hunger as he's had a healthy portion of baby rice tonight and has woken up again after 2.5 hrs. Unfortunately, only thing to placate him is milk. Maybe coopt dp at weekend to try! Oh dear, Nessamommy - how old was your baby when you tried it?
