Need a bed to fit me + my 7 and 10 year old

No judgement please ☹️
10 year old has autism and simple
wont sleep at all if not in with me able to reach out and hold my hand / touch my foot with his leg. It’s annoying, sleep disturbing but it’s the way it is. I’ve tried all forms of sleep training and sleep help over
the years and nothing works so I just accept it for now.
my 7 year old comes in every night about 1am to snuggle in and I’m simply too tired to do the whole return to bed thing 18 times until
morning.
so we all get some sleep, I got us a king sized bed a xoiple
of years ago and it works fine. Not perfect, but fine. We all sleep.

but it’s now not big enough as they are getting bigger and wriggle and I’m simply
kicked all night long.

what can I do? Exchange my super king for 3 x singles all pushed together? a double .+ a single? Im on low budget and not a huge space so keen for some of the smart ideas I see on here.

im Single so no worries of me having to share a bed with a partner ANY time soon between caring for the kids and working full time 😂

and just to add they have their own rooms with beds but just don’t sleep in them. thank you for helping.

Have you got room to add a single next to the super king bed? If the height isn’t right it could be adjusted with blocks of wood or large books. That would give you 9ft of bed space the same as three singles. And not cost any money as you could use existing beds

Oh that’s clever. Thanks.
i thought of this then thought it wouldn’t work as it would be lower than my high super kind. But you’re right, I could prop it up on blocks. when we have stayed in a premier inn (on rare holidays) they have a big double and a single pushed together and it works great as my son sleeps in the single but pushed up against me enough
that he can hold my
hand and see I’m there in the night. thank you so much x

If you haven’t got the wood try asking anyone who is a builder or joiner or anyone having any work done. Failing that you could buy the wood

You can buy specific bed raisers from disability aids websites which fit onto the bed legs and are easier to install. If your child gets DLA then you can even buy them vat free.

If you search "bed risers" there are plenty of options on Amazon (probably available other places too). They're non slip and come in square, round, different heights, sizes etc so hopefully you can find something right for the single to bring it up to the same level as your bed.

Thank you so so much.

Applied for DLA 8 months ago and been told
i should hear in June so fingers crossed.

in meantime I am going to get a second hand single bed and prop it up - there are building works going on near me
on a house renovation and lots
of
joiner vans so I am going to be brave and ask if they have any spare wood I could have as blocks to rise up the single bed so my son sees it more as an extension to the current one rather than separate and refuses it 🤦‍♀️

Instead of getting another bed can you move one of the kids beds into your bedroom?

wobblymum1 · 17/05/2023 09:04

i could but I guess I live in endless hope they might one day use their own beds! I’ve made their rooms
as nice as I can on a tight budget and moving their beds out would leave them looking pretty empty. There’s a
cheap single bed on gumtree I could get and remantle without too much trouble I think.
