Purflo nest and rubbish sleeper

Wonder if anyone is using one of these?

My 8 week old is a terrible sleeper... Horrendous reflux, investigating potential allergies (my now 4 year old was the same)

She is completely impossible to settle in a crib or Moses basket (yes, I've tried elevating etc) and just wants to sleep being held upright on our chests at all times.

The only time she'll potentially settle for a few hours is in the Sleepyhead. I know none of these things are recommended for overnight sleeping but, when the alternative is feeling so exhausted we're drifting off on the sofa, I feel quite desperate so it's a case of weighing up risks.

I'd never heard of the Purflo one before and apparently it's safer than the Sleepyhead... Curious so know of others experiences.

I haven’t used one for sleep but I have friends who have. You’ll get lots of responses about it not being ‘safe sleeping’ but if you’re so exhausted you’re at risk of nodding off holding her in bed or on the sofa, I would say using the sleep nest is definitely the lesser of two evils. Just make sure she isn’t overheated in it and that it’s lying flat in her cot, I wouldn’t put blankets on her as you can’t tuck them in the sides either, just a vest/baby grow.

Supposedly safer but also much less squishy and cosy and comfortable than the sleepyhead. My daughter would never sleep in it (or anywhere but on me for the first year 🙄). It's worth a shot but tbh if they already sleep on the sleepyhead then I'd use that and try to rearrange sleeping patterns around that with partner so that one can be supervising and one sleeping. It's a very hard time but it does pass x

Mine slept in a purflo starting at 7 weeks after I panic bought one in the middle of the night in desperation. It worked! He slept beautifully in it after a week or so of getting used to it, but even on day 1 he did a 20-minute independent nap in it which he hadn't ever managed before. One night after I'd washed the cover and it was a bit damp I decided to try him in his cot without it and it was a disaster, so it was pretty clear that he preferred the purflo instead of just becoming a better sleeper with time regardless of which bed he was in. I think it feels cosier, when they stretch out in it they can touch the sides and feel safer than if they're in a vast empty space of a massive cot.

He was also on reflux meds though, if yours is struggling with reflux then no bed exists that makes her more comfortable before the reflux is addressed.

Thanks for replying. Yes, she's on a high dose of omeprazole and I've gone dairy free too... It's made a bit of a difference to her screaming but not to out success in managing to settle her anywhere but in our arms 🥴

How long did you use the Purflo for and what did you have little one wearing inside? X

That one worked for us, still using it now at 6 months too.

We had it, DS slept brilliantly. Will be using for DC2.

Purple89 · 14/05/2023 16:24

We had one and it did definitely seem to help although my DD isn't a great sleeper in any case.

Richtea67 · 14/05/2023 20:44

My DD didn't like it....so I have one that has hardly been used to sell if you're interested! If you are let me know and I'll pm you details.

My DS slept in a Purflo from newborn. It was so handy as we could move it to whatever room we needed to be in. He used it until six months and we have just graduated to the max version which can be used until age three. It's also very good if you will be going away as it's a consistent sleep place which you can just bring with you and pop into any travel cot/ on the floor.

GinnyBee · 16/05/2023 10:36

Mine grew out of it around 4 months or so. Just in time for the regression too 😂 then we coslept for around 5 months and now he has a floor bed. We also took it on holiday abroad with us when he was 3 months and still sleeping through, it was fab, it fit into a normal suitcase and then could be just plopped on top of a bed, and in one Air BnB he just slept on the floor in it.

HI Guys,
Chiming in as i'm actually questioning if i should use dockatot or purflo. I just found this.

Apparently Purflo are NOT allowed to market their products as safe for SLeep and the ASA have called them out, but they seem to still be doing it as the product category is unregulated:

I'm actually going to go with DockATot now, i've looked into their testing, and they surplace the mattress firmness in the same way that a cot and crib does, as well as many others. I don't see the same testing with purflo. The marketing on these products is confusing.
