Genuine question. Why is it a problem if it works well? It doesn't take very long and she sleeps through? Why the need to do anything?

Agree with this. She will eventually grow out of it. My niece has to be held and rocked and shushed for about an hour each time, and as soon as you lay her down - she screams again!
Keep doing what you're doing if she's sleeping.

Reason id like to change it is because she is getting heavy and does occasionally wake on transfer

Normal!

Aww. Depending on what kind of crib/bed they have can you just lie next to them on the bed/floor until they fall asleep? A friend shared that trick with me. May not be easy the first couple times but kids often adapt quickly, mine did. Good luck xx

Instead of holding her then transferring her, can you switch to putting her down then leaning in to the cot and pressing her down? We did similar with DD and it worked well. It wasn’t long before she was happy with us sitting by the cot with a hand on her chest. She didn’t self settle till older and still needs us in the room to go to sleep.

This is normal.

The only way people "teach" their babies to self soothe is by not answering the cries.

My 18 month likes to be cuddled to sleep on our bed, then we move him to his cot. Some nights take longer than others but I just think he's so little that I suck it up for now. It is a pain, though, so I get it.

I don't remember what I did with my eldest but I don't think it was this. He's a brilliant sleeper and we've been able to tuck him in and leave him to it for years now!
