Does anyone know how long the back molars usually take to come through? My 2.5 year old is really struggling, he’s been so miserable and waking up in the night screaming 😩 bless him, it must be really painful! One of them has cut through a little bit on one side of the gum but the rest of it still needs to cut through and now I can feel the other one coming on the other side of his mouth, help!!!

DS's took just over two months. I know what you're going through, it was miserable.

@LGBirmingham wow 2 months 😩 I honestly can’t wait until this teething stage is over!

I know it's the best! DS was an early teether which was Brutal when he was a baby but he'd cot all his milk teeth through shortly after his 2nd birthday. It's so lovely not having any more of that!

@LGBirmingham i know I can’t wait for teething to be over!!! Did his back molars affect his sleep?

Yes. Waking up screaming the house down about four hours after last dose of pain killer.

Anne8888 · 10/05/2023 08:09

@LGBirmingham yes that’s what it’s like here 😳😩

It's horrible isn't it? Ds would also struggle to go back to sleep if he woke at 5. Does he get upset with it in the day too?

Anne8888 · 10/05/2023 22:25

@LGBirmingham yes he’s been so miserable, he’s been a little better today and gone to bed after about 5 mins of being upset which is quite normal for him recently but we will see how tonight goes

I think the only positive to teething is that you know what it is that's making them miserable and it will definitely end.

Anne8888 · 15/05/2023 19:19

@LGBirmingham so did you have 2 months of broken sleep? He’s woke up every night for the past 4 weeks expect for about 5 nights where he’s actually slept through

I'm afraid so. Was probably waking 3 times a night and regularly not settling again after 5 am. To be fair though he did also have a terrible ear infection which didn't clear after 3 courses of antibiotics. He was sent back to ENT and it turned out his grommet was actually infected.

We didn't solve that issue until his teeth were pretty much through though so it could have been as much the ear infection as the teeth that caused the dreadful sleep. I noticed from my notifications that you were also on the 2 year sleep regression thread. I think I posted about my woes with sleep during this period on there.

Sorry you've been struggling so long. If it gives hope my ds sleeps through consistently now, albeit for different lengths each night. He's in the midst of dropping the nap and any regular routine is out of the window. We don't get early wakes any more either but often have to wake him for nursery. Largely because of his nap at nursery pushing bed time very late. But I'm still taking it as a win. There's hope on the horizon!

@LGBirmingham its nice to know that I’m not the only one who’s been through this, I just keep thinking when is it going to end 😩 yeah we had a bad regression in December which lasted around 4 weeks where he was waking up every night but then it stopped but i actually noticed that he had cut one of his back teeth at the top which is fully through so I’m wondering if that was in December as I’ve only just noticed it
