Sleep in the day time

Hi, am new to this, so not up to date on all the code names I keep reading - hope am not going to get into trouble for it!?!
Anyway - My 22 month old son has always had alot of sleep both through the night and day, but as of recent he has started to just chat to himself in his room when normally would be sleeping, then other days will do 2-3hrs. If he doesn't sleep at the usual time of 12:30pm and just chats - by 5pm he is SO grotty life becomes miserable! He absolutely hates it when we wake him up - takes him ages to 'come-round'!!(bit like his mummy!) So don't really like the idea of limiting the sleep when he does actually go down.
Has this happened to any of you?!

Have to say firstly, WOW!!! My dds have never slept like that in the day and dd2 has been a right pickle (being V. polite here) since she was 18ms.
What's your usual routine with him,(time up/in bed etc)?

Hi Essie, welcome to Mumsnet!
ds1 at 24mo still has 1.5-2hrs sleep in the middle of the day and 12-13hours at night. He may well have dropped this level of sleep by now, but has been poorly recently. Like Batey, what is your ds's (ds=dear son, just in case! ds1 being 1st born) routine. How much sleep is normal for him? and what's he doing now?

Lindy · 17/11/2002 21:23

Essie - my DS is also a great sleeper (12 hours a night plus a 2-3 hour sleep every afternoon) - he also hates being woken up so I always try to let him wake naturally - just means I have to avoid going out in the afternoons - he also likes to wake himself up & 'chats' & plays with his toys & books for ages in his cot.

PS - meant to say he is 20 months old.

Hi guys - cheers for messaging back! Ds1 has always slept from 6pm - 7am since very young - the same with his sister (9months old) He then goes down for another kip at 12:30ish. He knocked the mid morning kip on the head a few months ago now. Dd1 (presuming thats dear daughter?!) still sleeps for 20 minutes at 10:00am. I aim to have them both sleeping at 12:30 - for my sanity more than anything! Its just that ds1 somedays settles other days doesn't. I just don't know whether to run with it, or put him in his bed regardless - just for some wind-down time?????? Oh I dunno - its all one big guessing game isn't it!?

I would keep putting him down, even if he is only 'resting' with a few books & toys at least it gives you a break - it may just be a short phase & if you stop putting him down altogether he might totally give up those afternoon naps - which presumably you don't want? !!

I'm new too, but I always thought d = 'darling'. I'm really disappointed - it just doesn't read the same now ! NB what does LOL mean ?

Jane101 · 23/11/2002 15:38

tomps, I think "d" can stand for either "dear" or "darling", so there's no need to be disappointed. You just read it as "darling" if you think it's nicer. "LOL" is "Laugh Out Loud" or "Laughing Out Loud".

Ghosty · 23/11/2002 20:09

Or it can mean Lots Of Love ...
