Two year old hyper at bedtime - HELP!!!!

Just turned two. Very energetic chatty little boy, very clever even if I do say so myself 🤣
We do everything by the book I think!

No sugar in afternoon, limited tv and it's off after 5pm, he has a 1.5 hour nap at 11.30am and we wake him at 1, he still wakes during the night very frequently and needs our help to get back to sleep and does need that daytime nap otherwise he's very grumpy in the afternoon.

We can handle the night time wakes but now bedtime is a nightmare too. He's just hyper. Running around his room (he's in a toddler bed) refusing to settle.

Thinking of getting a stair gate for his room so we can leave him there but we have never sleep trained so not sure I like the idea of leaving him to cry and he will cry if we leave (we normally read books then cuddle him to sleep which didn't used to take long at all).

Does he need a later bedtime? (Currently upstairs at 7, down for 7.30 on a good night)

Clocks changing hasn't helped, I've ordered a blackout blind.

Any other ideas welcome. I feel so guilty after a lovely day getting so frustrated at bedtime. Makes me feel like a terrible mum!

I think that is an early bedtime for a child who still naps.

Maybe you're right @Marchforward could try pushing it back I guess!

Drop to 45 minute nap. At 2 I was strategically pushing pram or driving somewhere in middle of day to get a short nap. DD would still sleep in cot but if I woke her earlier she'd be furious then she'd be undertired if she slept 1.5 hours
