9 month regression?

Hi all,
Hoping for some advice. My son is 9.5 months. We did sleep training at 6 months and he's always slept through from 7am - 6-6:30. He has a wake up around 4-5am but can be settled back. This past week he has been going to sleep at 7am and then waking up a few times throughout the night screaming and crying, climbing up in his cot - we've done what we always do which is go in and pat him a few times saying "shh sh sh" give him his dummy but as soon as he sees us walk away he starts screaming and crying uncontrollably again!! We literally have to stand there for a good 20 minutes until he's asleep to leave the room. Some nights, we've been unable to settle him and the only option has been to co-sleep. Does anyone have any idea why he is suddenly doing this? He was sleeping fine before and settling himself!

Separation anxiety kicks in around now so it might be that. Teething and learning a new skill can also have that effect too. Keep doing what you’re doing and it should settle down in a week or two.

someone said to me once that everything is just a phase with children - good and bad - so make the most when times are good and when they get harder, know that it won’t last forever xxx

hey, I came across your post and we are in the exact same position right now with our 9 month old. The last six nights she has been awake for over 2 overs during the night, standing in the cot and resisting sleep. She had also been resisting naps. Has your little one settled down again? If so how long did it take? We’re all running on empty at the minute.

@SunshineGG hiya! Honestly, this post seems like a distant memory (if that makes you feel better!) he's 1 tomorrow and genuinely whatever this was, it did settle down. I would say he did do it for a couple of weeks but the key for us to stay consistent and not pick him up out of his cot (part of our sleep training). During this time, we didn't want to create a new habit of picking him up during the night, so although it was tough we stood there for as long as it took. I know it's so hard but I promise you, it'll pass soon enough! Stay strong xx
