Could these be night terrors?

10.5m old. Suddenly cries/screams from sleep, arms and legs waving. Any attempt to console (verbal or physical) either descends into screaming or just makes the screaming worse. Will exert a pretty impressive amount of strength to break free if picked up (again while screaming). Only thing that will console is the boob. Eyes are closed the entire time.

Dad has parasomnia every night (dives out of bed to catch DC) and so does his brother (genetic?)

Yes sounds like it. Always best not to try and talk to them or wake them up. Go straight for boob option if that works.

Don't know if it's a "thing" but when I had night terrors, my eyes were always open.

I had read this which made me wonder otherwise but I can't explain what happens any other way. It's so out of character and extreme.

Yes it's hard, I'm trying to minimise how often we're feeding at night but these episodes are something else. I've also wondered teething pain but we give pain relief right before bed and it happens too often to be teeth every time I'd have thought.

When my DD had night terrors she would never have taken the boob. there was no awareness, totally blank screaming and flailing. Nothing could bring her out of it. I just used to sit with her to make sure she didn't hurt herself. After a few episodes I would sit on my phone or watch a programme, it didn't make any difference if I interacted with her or not, she was fast asleep. If she was able to be distracted I wouldn't have thought it was a night terror.

My son still gets them now, and I just have to sit and wait. If I try to interact with him it just makes it worse. I suggested boob as it seemed to work for OP but like you, mine would have probably just bitten me during a night terror.

Sorry you are still going through it. Yeah I would never have stuck a nipple in, it would not have come out again!!!
