19mo Cold bum at night! Help!

Hello,my first time posting here but first I just wanted to say THANK YOU to mumsnet as a whole, I have used this site So SOOOO much since my girl was born 19mo the ago, and also when pregnant :-) it’s been such a huge help reading old threads for advice so thank you to everyone!

my girls never slept that great, not awful by some peoples stories on here, but not great!
a few months ago actually I actually got some help to sort her sleep out from sleeping bunnies and it really did help, so anyone else wondering weather to, go for it if you can afford it!

she helped me stop feeding to sleep, we’re still BF but not to sleep anymore and that has helped the night wakings on the whole, apart from sleep regressions (18mo sleep regression was AWFUL!!) teething, illness etc 😬😂

ANYWAY:

I would love some help and advice about this: I think her having a cold wet happy and cold wet bottom is waking her up!

at the moment my girl is waking around 4am / 5am and I feed her back to sleep and she sleeps until 6 / 7am

our house is an old welsh farmhouse (rented) and cold at night… I have at moment a small oil radiator on in her room, and she’s in a 3.5tog sleeping bag with arms which I JUST bought a few weeks ago and it helped her sleep immediately, she wears merino PJs under that…

this morning I brought her into bed with me at 6, and instead of cuddling her under the covers for ages like normal with her sleeping bag still done up, I was worried she would get too hot as I had 2 duvets, 2 blankets on!
so I undid her bag, and put my hands under her PJs and her legs and bum were cold!!! 😬😬

so they must’ve been cold overnight as is only just got her into my bed, so she hasn’t had a chance to warm up,

I thought she was warm enough, but obviously not :-( I feel so bad

so my question is about how to stop her having a cold wet bum, I don’t change her nappy overnight, so it’s very full of wee, we use kit & kin she’s in a size 5, sometimes 6 overnight, rarely leaks.

if she has a wet nappy, will it always be cold, or do i just need to try and put more layers over her bum and legs so even a wet nappy stays warmer?

what do you do?
do you use special night nappies? Is there such a. Thing?
i wondered if using a night nappy that was thicker might keep it drier? And therefore warmer?
or what about using reusable nappies might they stay warmer as gernally thicker?

any advice or thought very much appreciated as I’m sure it wakes her up having a cold bum and legs,

The broken sleep has really messed me up, even tho I love my girl more than anything, I love her so much it hurts, she’s absolutely amazing and I am so so lucky, I just want to try and sleep more 😂 THAnknyou to everyone that’s ever posted on MN about sleep, I’ve pretty much read it all and found help ❤️

We use pampers at night and they seem really good 😊

fairgame84 · 09/03/2023 21:33

You need a really absorbent nappy that sucks the wet away from her skin.
I've always used pampers but I'm sure there will be other nappies just as good or better.

Whattodonut · 09/03/2023 21:36

Agree on pampers.
Could you change her nappy while she's sleep after the feed at 4?

twoandcooplease · 09/03/2023 21:37

What is she wearing to bed?
When ds goes to bed with only a nappy on his legs are sooo cold from the wee. Especially if he's kicked the covers off. Just like if you were to stay wet after a shower it's freezing
But when he wears pj bottoms his nappy is wet but not cold. He is not in a sleeping bag tho as he's overheat! He sleeps in bed with me and we both use blankets

I do change his nappy at 11pm and if I wake up through the night I do it too and that stops all night wakening. Like you I hate the thought of him being cold xx

TomeTome · 09/03/2023 21:40

I’d change her.

Whattodonut · 09/03/2023 21:41

We always change nappy when we go to bed at 11.

Inlovewithmydaughter · 10/03/2023 20:43

Thanks so much for all the replies 🙏🏽 I will change her tonight ( now!) when I go to bed and do a dream feed and hope that helps!
i always thought it was silly changing her and waking her up, but maybe that will really help I know I wouldn’t like to sit in 12 hours of wet nappy, I just thought no one bothered at night! Gosh maybe I’ve been doing it wrong all this time! 😬

She is in PJ bottoms and sometimes 2 layers on the bottom half but still seems to be cold!

Also going to give the pampers a try once I get to a shop big enough to stock them - rural living! So thank you… maybe they are more absorbent if they are night specific…

Xx

Most baby’s pee when you feed them. So after the feed will be dryer.

TheRookie · 10/03/2023 21:27

I've never changed my babies in the night unless they pooped. My girl never had any issues but.my boy has always been a cold tattoo! He usually wears a vest, onesie and 3.5 tog sleeved bag and he is always cosy except his hands.

Could you put a blanket over her legs?
