Cuddly rabbit in cot - safe for 6mo?

Hi,

My 6mo dd has what I think is called a 'blankie' (I live in Belgium - no idea if that is the word for it in proper English!), ie a small blanket-shaped toy thing to cuddle in bed as a transitional object. We hadn't given it to her at bedtime but recently she's got quite attached to it. I'm sure I read somewhere though that it's not safe to have toys in bed - does anyone know anything about this? I'm a bit worried as she seems to be developing a thing for falling asleep holding it across her face, which looks a bit odd and surely is a bit risky?

Any thoughts appreciated ...

I wouldn't worry.

at 6 months old and presumably healthy, her risk of sids has drops dramatically - and I think the toys in cot thing is about bigger babies climbing out with the aid of big teddies (like ds1 did)

My dd2 has always gone to bed with her comforters and she likes to sleep with them over her face too.

My 3 youngest have all had a cuddly soft toy from birth and slept with them on their faces from a youn age! Provided the label says suitable from birth I wouldn't worry.

Ds is 8 months and has had various blankies same as you describe in his cot with him since about 6 months. He also usually goes to sleep with it draped across his head or face and we just move it to the side once he's asleep. We find that he grabs it in the night as he always wakes up draped in it again by morning!! I wouldn't worry about your DD.

Thank you for your replies! Will leave her to it in that case and move it once asleep like Catkin says - anything that helps her fall asleep in the first place has gotta be good...
