Anyone else a really light sleeper?

Over the years, my sleeping has got increasingly light and since having my 8mth old ds, it's a million times worse. His cot is in our room. Unfortunately we can't move it because we have only one other room and that's our 12 yr old ds. He's a fantastic baby apart from nightime fidgets, grunts and groans. Nothing causes it, just his little ways but for me, the slightest noise and I'm up. Any suggestions? Have tried virtually everything, ranging from aromatherapy, massage, no caffeine, even a glass of wine (all for me of course not babba lol). Would appreciate any feddback especially if others are "lightsleepers" too. Ty xx

HellKat - I'm an extremely light sleeper too, and especially since having two kids never seem to let myself get into too deep a sleep.

If we ever have either of the kids in bed with us (fortunately not often, but occasionally if sick etc) I find I simply CANNOT sleep due to their breathing/ fidgeting etc.

My solution has been to wear one earplug - just in the 'uppermost ear' if sleeping on my side. I find it cuts out the most immediate noise, but doesn't cut out everything, so crying/ talking etc would still wake me up.And I seem to naturally roll onto my back to 'hear' if something genuinely needs to wake me up.

Would this work? Only thing is your DH might think you're trying to ignore the baby completely! Do you still need to get up to him in the night at all?

I was actually thinking of plugs but did'nt know until now if they'd work. So thanx!
Dh is a babe when it comes to little one. If I'm up and down (which is most nights) he'll offer to take him d/stairs and sleep on the couch with him. He's done that lots of times and whilst it's great for my nights' sleep and his (he only hears if he cries, none of the noises etc), it's not great for us! I look at it as it's my prob, not ds's (as he does'nt actually cry or rarely wake), so the earplugs sounds fab! So good to hear from another mum who's a light sleeper too!

am also light sleeper. another vote for earplugs. i stuck 'em in for as long as dd was in our room (6 wks, and then we shoved her in the bathroom). crying penetrated, but not the snuffling and rustling.

Lol! Shame our bathroom's d/stairs. Those are the noises that have me up and down like a yoyo. Rustling, kicking covers, groans etc!

Little foam roll ones are best (from Boots?)
Plastic ones hurt your ear if you roll over onto them!

Here's to a good night's sleep Smile

Thankyou very much! Will head to Boots a.s.a.p. Til then though, will try tissue lmao.

Mind you, will try little chemist across the road. Would've thought most places will do them. Was away watching "I'm a celeb" final. Joe for king! lol
