Please tell me this is a growth spurt?

From about 6 weeks, DD was sleeping from around 7 or 8pm until about 4.30am, having a feed and then continuing to sleep til around 7.30 or 8am.

Over the last few nights DD (who is now almost 10 weeks) has been waking four hourly through the night. So she'll go to bed at 7 or 8 and then will wake at 11, 3 and 7. I wouldn't mind if it was just a quick feed and then back to sleep, but this morning she woke at 3.30, had a feed which took 20 minutes and then continued to constantly spit her dummy out until about 5am-ish (so basically she wasn't tired!).

I'm knackered and just want reassurance that this is just a growth spurt and will not last very long!

Incidentally, we've just put her in her own room and into her cot (she was far too big for her moses basket and the cot is too big for our room) but she had started to wake four hourly BEFORE we put her into her room!

TIA.

Oh and if it makes any difference, DD is BF.

Ooh yes - tis a growth spurt. I remember the ARGH feeling with both of them, you are near 12 weeks and think you have it sussed, then they go and mess with your head again

Don't know about a growth spurt but it is almost certainly a 'phase'! All 3 of my dcs have gone through periods of more wakings and changing sleep patterns. I think if it's growth spurt related she'd be feeding much more frequently during the day as well and it would be over within 2 or 3 days.

I found that changes in sleep patterns were often linked (in hindsight) with physical up,milestones (holding head up, sitting, crawling, etc).

I think all you can do is ride with it and in a few more weeks she'll have changed it again .

Babies, eh? Just no consistency .

Four hourly?

RGPargy · 10/02/2008 11:29

That has helped to ease my [sleep deprived] mind, thanx.

Olihan - she HAS recently been holding her head up on her own, so maybe this is why?

IARMCFB - yes, four hourly. But it did used to be three hourly so i am now feeling smug at the four hourly-ness.
