Self soothing during the night

Hi,

My son is nearly 7 months old. He started sleeping through the night early on but we had the 4 month sleep regression and various colds/teething which meant he wanted to be held a lot during the night. In-between colds he was still able to sleep through. However, he hasn't for a long time now and I am worried that he just wants to be held.

We put him down drowsy at night and he settles himself to sleep. He wakes after about 2 hours and wants to be held. Everytime we put him back down he immediately starts crying. When we pick him up he stops very quickly and is back asleep. I don't know why he won't self settle again as he is so good at it before bed.

Does anyone have any recommendations? We were going to start sleep training last night but I was really stressed even by 30s of crying. Kept trying to pick up and put back down but he got more and more stressed and took longer the calm each time. Don't think I am strong enough to do the cry out method! Putting a hand on him to reassure does nothing.

Sorry for the very long post and apologies if people have posted similar things before. A lot of the guidance I have read is regarding self soothing before bed rather than dealing with a baby who can self sooth bit can't once they wake. Any tips would be really appreciated! Not sure if sleep consultants are worth it? Can't survive on a few hours of sleep a night much longer!

Thank you in advance for any replies xx

Try the No Cry Sleep Solution before resorting to full out 30 min of crying. It's essentially a pick up put down method and worked really well for us.

Thank you for the quick reply! Will have a Google. Did you just keep picking up and putting down with no crying out?
