23 month to drop nap?!

My ds turns two on 7th March. He's been a good sleeper most his life! We had another baby in August and this seemed to disrupt him and we were having lots of split nights but new years eve, he slept all night and has been better since; however, he has been going to bed at 9 or 10pm!

If he doesn't nap (which he didn't one day last week, and hasn't the last two nights), he sleeps 6pm - 7am.

He seems to cope fine without the nap, but is it far too early to drop the nap?!

I've tried a one hour nap 11-12 or 12-1 but he still doesn't go to sleep until 9/10 and wakes up at 6.

I worry it's far too young to drop the nap!

Mine dropped all naps by 18mth, it would have been earlier if she’d got her own way, it became a battle for the last 3mths.

@Brendabigbaps ah that makes me feel better. Everyone I've spoke to has said theirs were like 2.5/3 and I feel like I'm doing something wrong 😂 he would happily nap 2 hours but then it's a 10pm bedtime and still an early start!

Children very when they drop naps, some by 18/24 months others still napping at 4& 1/2! Sounds like yours is ready to stop naps, I'd do some quiet/chill time instead rather than trying to force a nap - you may find they fall asleep on some days if you've been very busy. It's really what suits you & your family, don't worry about what others do too much. I always preferred kids to sleep at night so prepared to sacrifice daytime naps for that.

If he’s not getting really over tired during the day then it sounds like it’s time.

There’s a lot of variation. My DS (nearly 2) still has a nap but he only has half an hour.

My friend’s DS dropped his nap at 18 months.

my eldest napped until 3.5 years, my youngest stopped at just about 2years. Two years on and they still both have very different sleep needs. Youngest needs much less than eldest did at same age.
soubds like yours is ready to stop.
We swapped nap for quiet time/cartoons to help me get through the long day!

Aw thank you so much everyone!

We have had quiet time watching TV, when his nap time would be.

I have honestly felt so worried I'm doing the wrong thing!

Best prepare myself for extra long days 😂🤪

My eldest dropped his nap at 2 too 🙃

Enforced quiet/tv time instead :)

Second kid napped for 3 hours until almost 4 so have hope!

Mine at 18mths too, otherwise she was up till midnight.

My daughter had mostly dropped her nap by 2. I say mostly because at weekends/holidays when she could wake up naturally (after 12-13 hours sleep) she didn’t need a nap. In term time, when I could only physically have her in bed for 11 hours overnight with my working pattern, she still needed a nap some days at childcare.

my nephew on the other hand was still napping at 3.5 and at my school some of the reception children still nap sometimes!

DD dropped her nap at 2y3m precisely. She just refused to go to sleep one afternoon and that was it! We went from 2hrs nap to zero. It didn't affect her night sleep at all, and she wasn't too grumpy without the nap.

DS started to give his up at 20mo, on the first day of lockdown! He then napped every now and then for the next six months, finally giving up for good on the day DD went back to school (2y2m old). If he had a nap he wouldn't go to bed, if he didn't have a nap he was absolutely awful from about 3pm. He did grow out of that!

It might be time OP!

DS1 was a really poor sleeper, but had dropped his nap at 25 months.
