Won't be put down in the day, but not too bad at night?!

My 3.5 week old HATES being put down to sleep during the day. But is fine at night for stretches of 3 hours (ish). Which I'm not complaining about.

At night, he sleeps in a Gro-snug sleeping bag, white noise and in the next to me cot.

During the day, he's downstairs with me in his Moses basket, again in a Gro-snug sleeping bag. Usually he's in the living room, tv on and usual background noise.

He's so unsettled during the day. He doesn't do long stretches in the basket, often fusses, will let out the odd cry and go back to sleep but other times will continue to cry until picked up and held. Then he'll fall asleep fine in my arms and want to stay there! But all of the sleep guidelines say that baby should stay in the same room.

I know all about the fourth trimester but it's not possible for me to sit and cuddle him for hours on end sadly. I have a toddler too.

I had the opposite problem with my eldest, he was fine in the day and rubbish at night so this is new to me!!

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Sling. Baby can sleep in there and you can still do stuff with toddler.

I think day sleep and night sleep are different for babies. Not sure why! My baby who is 6 months will only contact nap still even now, so I hold him for all his naps (about 3-4 hours per day). if I put him down he will wake either instantly or within 20 minutes. Whereas at night he will sleep all night in his cot and doesn't need to be held. Sorry that doesn't help but just wanted to share

@FoxInSocksSatOnBlocks I have a sling but haven't used it yet as still recovering from c section! Can't wait to use it in about a week or so, thank you.

@sunseaandme if I didn't have a toddler I would love to enjoy contact naps more!

Totally normal. Mine contact napped almost exclusively for 9 months, but goes down fine at bedtime no problem. He’s also done some pram naps before it got cold and I got too lazy with layering him up just for a nap. Slings and carriers are great as baby can nap while you go for a walk, to the shops, hoovering and cooking. I had mine in a stretchy 5 days after my c-section for a quick stroll outside.

@GinnyBee I just don't have the time to offer contact naps all day sadly. I wish I did! The sling I'll definitely start using soon as I know that will be a game changer.

And 5 days after your section you had baby in a sling? Wow well done you! I'm still feeling sore in my lower stomach but had a few complications with my recovery so it's been slower than expected sadly.

Oh that’s tough, sorry to hear. Yeah I had a really easy recovery and figured that if I’m able to carry him in my arms I should be able to have him in a stretchy wrap.
