Help needed with sleep

Hi guys! First Post. Help definitely need with my little one. He's just turned 2 and I've had months and months of him having sleeping problems. I'm at my wits end. He gets up one morning say 8am, will have a nap those days, then won't sleep til 2/3am. Then he's up late the next day, doesn't nap and goes to bed at 10pm. Sleeps for around 3 hours, wakes back up. Sometimes I can't get him back to sleep until 8am! I'm trying to make better day time routines etc but it's so hard to wake him. Especially if I've had little to no sleep. Just don't know what I can do

Oof that's hard.
I'm no expert but I think I'd power through with a daytime routine (which might be awful for a few days) in the hope that it helps the nights.
My DD is almost the same age and she is up between 6:30 and 7, then naps about 12:30 for up to an hour (we wake her), then bed about 7:15-7330.

Get the Ferber sleep training book.

Thankyou! Its just so difficult when you've had no sleep, isn't it, matchsticks required!

How long is the nap on the days he has them?

MummyC27 · 14/02/2023 16:07

Could be anything from 30 minutes to 22 hours. I try to wake him but he usually just screams and falls back asleep

I would start with a really regiment sleep hours. Either get up 6.30/7 and a short nap at 12, wake up at 1.30 and bedtime at 7. Or get up by 8 and bed by 7.

Whatever you do you need to have a set wake up time in the morning and get him into daylight as soon as possible.

I agree with pp. I would be implementing a strict regimen to get him into good habits. I'd wake at 7am, nap at 12midday for 1 hour and bedtime at 7pm. Waking him from his nap...I would just lift him up and deal with the fall out. I'd have a snack/activity waiting to distract him but I wouldn't let him roll over and go back to sleep. This may take a couple of weeks to work but I'd give something like this a shot.

Thanks guys, I'll definitely give it a try. If he falls asleep in his pram etc should I just wake him when we get home? Obviously we don't go out at the same time every day, it's not always possible.
