My newborn is really struggling with colic

My son is 9 weeks old and for the last couple weeks he's had colic and he's just seeming to be more and more unsettled. First of all we tried infacol for a week that didn't work for him, I took him to the doctors and they prescribed gaviscon sachets which stopped him being sick so much but didn't stop the uncomfortableness and made him constipated so we took him back and the doctor prescribed him liquid omeprozole. So he has that every morning but he just seems so uncomfortable. He's barely sleeping.. he's soo windy and seeming so constipated (legs up crying etc) and he will cry then pass wind then cry again before he passes wind again. So we thought he was constipated but he's going once daily and they are soo runny. Any help or advice would be amazing!

Hi. I have an almost identical situation with my 5 week old apart from the constipation. We were prescribed Gaviscon last Thursday as he was vomiting more than usual but DS is still pooing fine and they’re not runny (that could change though).

We’re trying Colief drops as of yesterday as Infacol did nothing. Failing that we’ll move onto Dr Browns bottles.

When does yours start? We have crying sessions early morning and then picks up again mid afternoon. He seems in pain and yelps. Difficult to soothe and he’s constantly passing wind which after a big fart settles him for maybe 5 mins and then starts again. Pretty brutal!

Let me know if you find a solution!

Hello! It's awful to see them like it isn't it, it just seems relentless. Do you think the colief drops are working? I haven't tried them yet!

My boy is much more settled in the day but so much worse at night. Normally starts badly at like 11 and then he's up every two hours and takes ages to settle. He's still being sick lots. How does your little one sleep at night?

My boy is nearly 3 and I still remember this like it was yesterday. My boy was much better during the day as I held him a lot more after feeds etc. Apart from the relentless crying for none stop 12 weeks the things I tried which helped were swapping to Dr brown bottles, I had the Philips before and they didn't help much. Also tried gaviscon which helped massively after about 2 to 3 weeks. My Dr said it could take a few weeks to get in to his system. It's awful I totally get it.

Give him a dummy. Swaddle to calm him down.

Have you explored the possibility of a cows milk protein allergy? My daughter was exactly the same as how you have described and nothing seemed to work. GP prescribed some special milk for her and she was like a different baby - so much more settled and comfortable.

@Couldntthinkofausername24 yes it's super hard isn't it! I definitely think my boy is better in the day for that reason too! Ok thank you, I think I will try dr brown bottles next I've heard about them a couple times now so will try them next. he was much more settled last night so let's hope that stays!

@Polik ooo yes we tried swaddling him the other night for the first time it did actually seem to really help get him to sleep as normally he cries as soon as he's lying down, it must help them to feel like they are being held! And his dummy has been a bit of a life saver too!

@Thehighlandcoo thank you! I do think I'll have to go back and ask about this if it carries on. I recently stopped breastfeeding and we started giving him sma the comfort one which is supposed to be for constipation and colic but that was not helping and made his poos really runny and green I just don't think it agreed with him. But I saw a few people on here say about hipp organic so two days ago started that and so far yesterday and last night were the best he's been in ages and poos back to normal colour and consistency so fingers crossed 😊
