What age did people's dcs drop their daytime sleeps?

And how did you know?

I fear this moment is coming soon...

my dd dropped hers at just under 3 but we had prolonged it for quite few months by taking her out in the car at naptime and getting her to fall asleep there (when we moved her from cot to bed at about 22 months she refused to have a nap in the bed so we resorted to the car instead).

ds is still happily napping at 16 months so we'll see how it goes for him.

DS still needs daytime nap at 3 years and 2 months. I try to limit it to an hour now cos otherwise i cant get him to bed later.

DD still going strong at just 2, sometimes she will only have an hour sometimes 2.5 hours, very occasionally she will go the whole day without a nap but she is horrible without it and so goes to bed a bit earlier

DD days after her third birthday.

DS days after his second birthday (gawd that was a horrible shock).

I knew because they both started crying and standing up in the cot and saying "I don't want to go to sleep pleeeeeeaaaaaaassssssse mummy".

And as they both managed to stay awake and good-tempered (most of the time!) until bedtime, I felt it would be unreasonable to try and force the issue.

DD was always a terrible napper, would rarely sleep at home, had to go out for a walk with her (happy happy day when she started to continue sleeping after I'd stopped walking, as a baby I had to keep going or she'd wake up, ugh). At about 2.6 we told nursery not to let her have more than an hour, as it was affecting bedtime, not long after that the effect got very pronounced, half an hour's sleep in the day meant bedtime an hour and a half later. She continued to sleep at nursery if she dropped off during quiet time, but when she moved to preschool at 3 there was no such time, so no more naps after that. Now (coming up for 4) if she falls asleep in the car we end up with a fight at bedtime, unless she's ill.

Thank you, I think I still have a few more sleeps left at 2.1. What joy, I get to iron!

you're all lucky! my dd is 17mo and only sleeps for 30 ins during the day!
enjoy it while you can!

dosydot · 08/02/2008 20:10

DS 2 next month has not had a daytime sleep for 2 weeks now. He is sleeping a solid 12 hours at night though so I guess I will just have to do the ironing in the evening now instead of MNetting(sod it the ironing can wait)

My dd is 2.1 and I fear that time is coming. But, if she doesn't take a nap early afternoon, she is a whiney, tantrumy mess by later afternoon. Yet, if she does, she doesn't go to sleep until 8:30 or 9pm... Not sure what to do, really.
