Newborn Sleep Sounds

Hello

First of all apologies if this has been asked before, I’m new here and was just looking for a quick answer really but google didn’t help and my sister recommended this forum!

My son is 3 weeks old on Monday (6 Feb 23), I’ve just started work again this week after 2 weeks paternity

during the day, my son sleeps a lot, and 90% of this sleep is quite, peaceful. He wakes for feeds and nappies and that’s about it, perfect right? HOWEVER, at night, it’s a completely different kettle of fish. Stays quite for short periods followed by lots of moaning and whining. It’s not crying, he’s fed and burped ever 2-3 hours (when required per him), nappy changed, not warm/cold. It’s bizarre!

anybody else had the same? Any advice to reduce night noise?

Thank you in advance!!

Extra Context
just for extra context, in the day he sleeps in his chair or bean bag. At night he’s in his “next to me”

day obviously light with tv on. Night, dark with no light at all, only sound is white noise machine (we have noticed he seems to sleep better with a lamp on sometimes)

Babies seem to make more noise at night I think. Whether that's because there is no other noise in the house so it's more noticeable or whether it's because the household/daytime noise soothes them more I'm not sure. But I remember the shock of the noisy snuffling with my first baby! You will get used to the noise and once your ears are tuned in you will know if they need you or not. You could take it in turns to wear earplugs?

The other thing is that to start with, babies are often more settled during the day because they have been soothed in the womb by their mothers moving about all the time, so daytime is more restful for them. New babies often have their days and nights mixed up and it takes a while for them to get it sorted out.

Baby sleep changes all the time and once you get used to one thing they will change it 😂

Congratulations on your little one 😊

Thanks for the response 😊 I suppose it’ll just be one of those things we’ll have to get used to!
