Second nap help!

Sleep training experts!

LO wouldn't nap till 2.30pm whereas we trained him normally to do 1-3 for a 7pm bedtime.

Our consultant told us he can't sleep past 3.15 so now he will only have 45 mins of sleep! Do I wake him up after 45 mins and bring bedtime forward to 6pm?? How does this work please? Blush

He is 8 months in a few days...

Morning nap was 45 mins

TIA!

I do 4 hours final wake window - only adjust every so slightly for a short nap unless ridiculously short like 15 mins.

With your timings for my LO I’d wake 3.15pm and still do 6.15pm bath, 7pm sleep. 8 months old.

@Nellie0606 thank you! Do you keep to the 4 hour window regardless of nap durations if I'm not mistaken? That's really helpful. I may start the process around 5.45 then as getting his nappy changed and into new clothes is a struggle with how much he fights me! Haha!

@MrsTwentyNine yep she seems to cope ok, unless the second nap was crazily short (10 minutes because the dog barked for example!!)

@Nellie0606 amazing! Can I check when and how long your morning nap is? And does she wake at all during the night? So frustrating as we finally got him to sleep through the night with his naps perfect and today this happens Sad

She sleeps 12 hours most nights (one wake up approx 3am). Wakes up 7am. First nap 9-10 ish normally around 45 mins. Second nap around 1/2pm, always wake up no later than 3.30pm, ideally 3pm. This nap can be anywhere from 1 - 2 hours and as I said, I aim for asleep 4 hours later.

I know it’s easier said than done, but try not to get too caught up on exact timings. They do cope, although they are better with a routine. A day where it goes wrong isn’t a disaster, or a day where you’re out and about. I’ve found a balance between aiming for a routine most days but also going with the flow if it doesn’t fit with my day works best for my mental well-being.
