I know you will all think 3 weeks a bit early to be worrying about bodyclocks or routines but does anyone know how to tell a tiny thing that night time is for sleeping and daytime for gazing into his mother's eyes? It's IMPOSSIBLE to wake him during the day - nothing works. Loud noises, bright lighting, toe-tickling, change of temperature etc. As soon as I feed him he dozes off, only to be wakeful at night. Any bright ideas?
Yours in desperation!

my 9 week old nephew was just as you describe. Drove my sister to distraction. Unfortunately, its just something that will click by itself. You can help immensely though by making sure daytime (even if lo is asleep) is bright, noisy, active. Follow good bedtime routine ie- bath, feed, cuddle, put in moses basket or similar upstairs. Only feed upstairs in the dark/dim after 8.30, dont bring baby downstairs after this time. lo body clock will soon adjust, although it wont feel soon to you.

They've spent 9 months inside your womb, in the dark, with no real determinable way of telling night from day.

It's going to take a fair bit longer than 3 weeks for them to start sleeping at 'appropriate' times.

Def too early to worry.

Just try and make sure it is light in the day and take him out for some fresh air!

Completely agree with microwave. It is too early to start trying to keep him awake. But it is a good idea to make sure he gets as much daylight as possible, so try and get out & about with him whenever you can!

there isn't a way to correct it.

they just grow out of it IME

Tis normal.

He will settle - but you have to give it more than three weeks. He hasn't even worked out he's not still inside your body yet.

I've just had my 9 wk old nephew from 12 til 7. He was asleep when dropped off, don't worry his mum said, he'll not sleep for long. I woke him up for his lunchtime bottle then he went back to sleep. I woke him up for his tea time bottle, he stayed awake for half hour maybe then went back to sleep. Got text off his mum, don't let him sleep or he'll not sleep tonight! Erm how do i keep him awake? I tried but he was having none of it, he went back to sleep! There's only so much you can do at this age, he'll get there eventually.

Try stripping them off, nappy changing, or putting them down if they fall asleep mid-feed in the day. At this age, my DS would wake, feed, fall asleep. He gradually got more awake in the day. Make sure you keep nighttimes dark and boring.
