Owlet - peoples thoughts/experiences?

My baby is due any day now, and I'm looking into investing in the owlet. Would anyone who has one or has used one care to share their experiences?

I suffer from anxiety, and although I have regular therapy sessions, I am aware that my anxiety will increase once baby is here. I feel the owlet will help ease my anxiety whilst baby is sleeping. Although baby will be in with me for at least 6 months, I feel the owlet may help me relax and be able to sleep without constantly checking on baby. Did anyone else feel like this near the end of their pregnancy?

We were gifted one and it was awful. Honestly, if you are anxious don't do it. The alarm would go off if the sock even became slightly dislodged waking us up in a panic and baby up I'm tears from the beeping. Putting the sock on was a faff and constantly needed charging. And the video was awful, poor quality and kept disconnecting, having to reset it all over and over.

It was the most expensive piece of crap we were given and if anything was anxiety inducing. We ended up getting a basic camera with noise/ motion sensors for a fraction of the price and it's far better.

It was good for the newborn days with the sock, but after that rubbish. Camera quality is pants and it's always offline or broken for some reason overnight and a bright blue light turns on and wakes up the baby...

I’ve never used one but I read one article where it had malfunctioned and burned the baby’s foot/ankle somehow! I think the sensor pads (underneath the cot mattress) are good for certain babies with health conditions (premature etc).

But I really don’t think the monitoring is necessary for all babies. They’ll sleep on you / in the same room as you for at least 6 months, usually, and that’s what reduces SIDS. We have a video monitor and we check/watch it constantly when we’re downstairs watching TV so you’ll be forever checking regardless 😄 My baby is 8.5 months now.

The anxiety is pretty normal and expected at the start but it’ll lessen overtime as you adapt and grow with confidence. If not, you can speak to your health visitor or GP after a few months for some extra support. Hope that helps.

It won't make you less anxious. It's designed to pray on new parents anxieties and part them from their money, it's an extremely cynical product.

Everyone feels anxious at first, as the poster above says. Over time, you feel better.

Many parents, especially those who experience anxiety, find the Owlet Smart Sock to be a valuable tool for monitoring their baby's well-being. The device provides real-time data and sends alerts to your smartphone if it detects any abnormalities, such as a drop in oxygen levels or an irregular heart rate uno online. This feature can help alleviate anxiety by providing reassurance that your baby is safe and healthy, even when you're not in the same room.

I don't know much about the owlet so can't advise there I'm afraid - we did look into it briefly but then discovered the Snuza Hero monitor and we LOVE it! I am also very anxious and I have found this device really reassuring. Maybe worth a look into. It was also much cheaper than the owlet.

I can relate by the way - on the occasions DS falls asleep without the monitor on, I struggle to sleep for the worry. Hoping your therapy is helpful and sending lots of well wishes. Anxiety is really rough! Congrats in advance on your baby 🌻

An alternative opinion- ds is 11 months and we still use the owlet every night. I love it and it hasn't caused me anxiety

We have one - baby is currently 3 months and I love it too. It only slipped a few times and it plays a tune for a placement issue, rather than scaring you with a false alarm. It helps me sleep, especially as I tend to co-sleep at the end of the night. I do suffer from anxiety and his was a pregnancy following a late loss, so we were extra anxious. We didn’t buy the monitor but I do rate the sock. The data for each night is also helpful to see when he woke etc (sometimes a blur when I try to rely on my memory!).
