13mo sleeping with face in duvet..

we introduced a duvet & pillow to 13mo ds this week, last few nights have been fine (from what we've seen whilst awake lol) & his naps have been fine, but tonight he's sleeping with his face into his duvet as he's switched himself around - so feet are now at pillow. the duvet has bunched up a bit too.

just wondering if i should continue using the duvet or to go back to sleeping bag, just because i'm worried about suffocation etc

It’s fine, his face is turned to the side and he can breathe. I’d only be concerned about him getting cold.

I used to sometimes bury my face in a blanket / soft toy / whatever dd had just to check if they’re breathable and they usually are!

wheredotheygo · 16/01/2023 21:50

I wouldn't risk it. Don't see the point in taking chances with this sort of thing really. I'm not over cautious at all and he is clearly able to breathe from the photo but if you are worried then what's the point? I'd put him back in the sleeping bag for another month or two and try again rather than feeling concerned.

Go back to the sleeping bag, just for peace of mind.

dustydewdrop · 16/01/2023 21:57

I’d stick with the sleeping bag mainly because they move around so much he’ll probably not stay under the duvet, wouldn’t want him getting cold.

In my mind he's a bit too young for a duvet. My just two year old is still in a sleeping bag and my eldest two didn't change to duvet until they came out of the cot, so 2.5/3yrs.

LivingOnAPrayerYes · 16/01/2023 22:09

What's your reason for switching to duvet and pillow?

I kept mine in sleeping bags for as long as possible- even when moved to a toddler bed. Much easier to keep them warm (and asleep!) over night when they don't understand about pulling a duvet back over themselves

We use the sleeping bags with feet so no problem with them getting up and about in sleeping bag.

Back to Sleeping bag pls my DS is the same age and sleeps in that position

Cuppasoupmonster · 16/01/2023 22:32

DD was in sleeping bags until she was 2. Even now at 3.5 she wakes herself up by kicking the duvet off so she’s in onesies and socks.

Remaker · 16/01/2023 22:38

My kids were In sleeping bags until they came out of the cot. My DS in particular was like an acrobat rolling all over the place and getting into weird positions. Is there a reason you switched?

Mamoun · 16/01/2023 22:39

I wouldn't be too worried about suffocation but it's super cold this week (are you in the UK?) and he might wake up because cold. Or his nappy will overflow as you pee more when cold.
Duvet from 2,5 yo IMO

CaramelMach · 16/01/2023 23:00

13 months seems young for this. I think I first got one at 18months for child 1.

That seemed early if I recall.

PinkButtercups · 16/01/2023 23:04

Isn't it recommend 18 months for pillows and duvets? I'd take it out tbh. Never used a duvet with a cot either.

Divebar2021 · 16/01/2023 23:10

I don’t understand why you would give up the sleeping bags?

justasking111 · 16/01/2023 23:13

OH back to sleeping bags. It's so cold at night. In this weather mine had a little heater with thermostat too
