From cosleeping to baby in own room?

Does anyone have any tips for how to move my 6 month old to their own room?

We’ve coslept since birth but we’re waking each other constantly. Sometimes 12 times a night 😴 We normally rock to sleep at start of night and breastfeed back to sleep during the night.

I know independent sleep is best but my LO is sooo far away from being able to do that. He’s always been a rubbish sleeper. But I don’t want to sleep train.

Anyone have any gentle suggestions for moving him to a cot in his own room? I don’t have space to put the cot in my room. I’m trying putting him in his cot asleep for 1 nap a day but he often wakes when he touches the mattress 😭

A floor bed sounds a good setup for you, that way you could lie in it with baby to settle then leave once they're asleep. No lowering onto mattress required and also means you can get back in if they're having a difficult night! If you Google how to safely set up a floor bed there are loads of tips about how to do it cheaply, childproof the area and make sure it's safe etc.

How about putting him down awake (but sleepy) in his own bed for naps initially and seeing how it goes … if he feeds to sleep the Elizabeth Pantley Method where you repeatedly detatch him once he’s drowsy might help you get more rest in the night? It’s a very gentle sleep training method which is co-sleeping friendly.
