17 month old sleep pattern!

My DD is 17 months and we will put her to bed at 7:30/8ish but she’ll have some milk and go to sleep a bit later on her own. She’s started sleeping until 11:00/11:30am these past few weeks. And will also have an hour-2hour nap during the day? I feel like this is excessive? She’s been walking for a while now so it’s not an increase in activity or anything just sleeping half the day away!

Please don’t bash me for asking! I’m certainly not complaining … just an overly worried mum! Haha

Is she bright and alert when she is awake @Funfamilytimes? Is she getting enough calories in?

Catterpillarwithconverse · 01/01/2023 15:46

7:30/8ish but she’ll have some milk and go to sleep a bit later on her own. Sorry can you break that down for me? I'm just trying to work out how much she's asleep for in 24 hours.

Funfamilytimes · 01/01/2023 15:58

@Catterpillarwithconverse I’d say it takes her 10-15 mins to finish her milk. So latest she’s asleep is probably 8:30pm and will sleep until 11:30am. And then will have a 1 or 2 hour sleep in the day too.

@PritiPatelsMaker yep definitely enough calories I think! She likes her food. Yeah bright and alert. Will play and sort things into piles and what not. But if I ask her if she wants a nap she’ll happily sleep too

So she sleeps for 17 hours every 24 hours?

Catterpillarwithconverse · 01/01/2023 19:51

That does sound like a lot of sleep. Personally I'd run it passed the health visitor just to be sure everything is OK. It's a great sign that's she's alert when awake and eating lots.

PeanutButterFalcon · 01/01/2023 19:54

I’ve just posted something very similar in childrens health, except DD is clearly tired in between and not eating due to sleeping the day away.
she’s being referred to the hospital.

Funfamilytimes · 01/01/2023 23:24

@Mistonthemountains Yes

My 17MO DS is very similar - sleeps min 14 hours overnight and naps for about 3 hours, sometimes longer, so total sleep average sleep is about 17 hours out of 24. I took him to the GP just before Christmas and he's now been referred to paediatrics. I'm sure all is fine but it does seem excessive so I wanted to get him checked out

PeanutButterFalcon · 02/01/2023 00:16

@Funfamilytimes of course. It’s so stressful isn’t it.

birthdaybonanza · 02/01/2023 00:29

Well I have a 16 month old and he sleeps around 10 1/2 hours at night and max 3 hours in day (2 naps) he could probably do with more at night but seems set at that amount. To me that seems a lot. I echo getting things checked over with HV or GP based on recommendations for age and the fact you say it's changed.

I'm sure there's nothing wrong

Mistonthemountains · 02/01/2023 07:31

That does seem a lot but sleep requirements do vary widely. I'd echo everyone here and make a non urgent GP appointment to discuss. Hope she's OK x

PritiPatelsMaker · 02/01/2023 09:07

Glad that they seem to be thriving when they are awake @Funfamilytimes, but agree with others that I'd do an non-urgent GP appointment and see what they say.

@PeanutButterFalcon do keep us updated Flowers

cloudychance · 02/01/2023 09:53

That seems like a lot of sleep to me! My 18 month old naps either 1-2 hours around 10.30 and then we put her to bed at 6.30/7 and she'll sleep until 6 the next morning generally.

Funfamilytimes · 20/01/2023 07:39

@PeanutButterFalcon GP has referred to the hospital too. They think she could have epilepsy. But also has a heart murmur that hasn’t gone away.
Hows your little one?

@Funfamilytimes I hope you don’t have to wait too long. The hospitals seem to be so busy at the moment.

we haven’t heard from paediatricians or about bloods yet. We do have a dietician appointment though and they’ve already sent me a high calorie/iron diet for her to try and increase her energy. She’s definitely happier when she’s awake now, even heard her laugh and shout again which I didn’t even realise we hadn’t heard in so long.

Funfamilytimes · 20/01/2023 12:09

@PeanutButterFalcon that’s so good that she’s getting a bit more energy. Been thinking about you and your daughter. Hopefully we’ll get answers soon!
