3 month old screaming before sleep

....not just crying, I mean the most godawful screams and nothing will console her. She mainly does this at night before her main stretch of sleep at around 8-9pm. We have tried it all....nice calm routine, making sure she's not overtired, dummy, white noise, swaddle. She's a fairly chilled baby during the day. Although is still very much a velcro baby and can't be put down for naps, so naps mostly in sling or pram. I am currently breastfeeding and we're co sleeping, but she won't feed to sleep, so after a feed i either shush pat her when she's lying next to me, or if this doesn't work hold and rock her until she passes out with exhaustion from the screaming. The rest of the night she's fairly settled, wakes for feeds 3 hourly then settles again quickly. It's bloody stressful.....any ideas or will she grow out of it??

Colic maybe

AftersomeAdvice234 · 24/12/2022 21:24

Perhaps colic, if it’s the same time every night. Colic usually happens at night and like you said it’s not cries it’s screaming

I op. My baby did this. I started putting her down earlier. She was a bit younger than 3 months, but she would scream the house down. I worked out that her bed time was about 6pm and if I put her down at this time she wouldn’t scream and started sleeping the full night.

Our baby did this, GP put it down to colic - for me this was a very vague term as there must have been a reason why he was crying for hours every evening - however we never really got to the bottom of it and he got gradually better on an evening from around 4mo.

We did start putting him down earlier (7/7:30pm) around this time, which helped somewhat, although I recall having to take it in turns holding him for a while still!

Will also add that the earlier bedtime did not mean he started sleeping through for us (as much as I would have loved that). DS woke up every 2 hours overnight, and has only recently started giving us longer stretches at 9mo.

Thanks all. I think we will try an earlier bedtime of 6/6.30pm although this may be a bit of a rush with sorting out the other DD. She goes to bed at 7/7.30 and I was rather hoping DD2 would slot into her routine...she obvs didn't get the memo!

Let us know how you got on. It will be difficult with other kids.

my baby isn’t sleeping through anymore, but I would say the earlier bed time helped.
