Back to work and a baby that is struggling with sleep :(

my 9 month old ds is struggling with his sleep and has been for a couple of months now. He used to be amazing, he started sleeping through at 12 weeks old for 10 hours each night but the last couple of months have been hell.

things have improved slightly since he has moved into his own room 3 weeks ago - we are no longer disturbing him and his cot seems much comfier for him that his next2me crib.

we have a lovely bedtime routine and always have - bath, story, bottle and bed for around 8pm. Most nights I put him in his cot awake and leave him with Ewan the dream sheep and he falls asleep himself which I know is a good thing. However at the same time every single night…. 1am …. He is Awake and balling his eyes out. I mean that awful shouty cry. He won’t stop till I pick him up and cuddle him. I try everything… calprofen (for teeth), white noise, heater on to warm his room, teething gel, milk. He falls back asleep in my arms but wakes soon as I begin to lower him into his cot! So I have been sat awake holding him till about 3am till he’s in a deep deep sleep so I can put him down again. But he is awake sobbing again shortly after. My partner works long hours which involve long distance driving and I worry about disturbing him and him being tired while driving. He has almost fallen asleep behind the wheel when he has got up during the night to help me.

I have tried co sleeping and my partner has slept in the spare room so ds can sleep in bed with me, but he still sobs so loudly in his sleep even though I am right there next to him! Even when I pick him up he continues to sob in his sleep and I’ve no idea why.

this has been going on for so long, I am exhausted, but I am back at work at Christmas and I work long days. How will I cope with such lack of sleep???
Anyone else experienced this?

I'm glad you finally got some sleep op.

I got signed off of work after two months after returning from mat leave as the sleep deprivation was so severe. It's absolutely brutal.

I've no wisdom , I just wanted to wish you well and let you know you're not alone.

My money was on the molars! They're awful. Glad you managed to dose him up enough for him to sleep. Hope it continues for you.

What's the rationale behind oat milk? I need some tips too!

HV said cows milk may be giving him belly ache he could have a bit of an intolerance! So i tried it with nothing to lose. You could give it a go if you’re desperate!

Sorry forgot to add - HV told me that oat milk is recommended to babies with milk allergy who are ready to move off formula. So instead of moving onto cows milk they move onto oat milk

Thanks guys. Here’s hoping this will be our third night 🤞🏼it’s 100% got to be the milk or the molars. He is dosed up on ibuprofen tonight anyway!

I've been following, OP - similar here but only 10 months. Doing KIT days and dreading going back to work. He's also keeping my eldest awake at night as well as me. So happy you've had a breakthrough, though!

We've had one night of sleeping through and now I can't replicate it, just back to the screaming for hours. Holding him doesn't even help.

How was last night?

I’m so sorry for you :( working whilst being sleep deprived is the hardest thing in the world. I went back to work at Christmas and had to go off sick last month because it was breaking me. I was also massively under performing!

im so pleased to say we had ANOTHER good night last night! 8.30pm - 7.30am!!

Glad you’re having better sleep now!

This is my problem with how quick some people are to recommend sleep training. You tried it, it didn’t work, many sleep trainers would then just say to stick with it and extreme consistency is required! But this baby was in pain, no amount of consistency and ear plugs would have trained him to sleep through milk intolerance and teething.

I'm very interested in what you've said about cows milk v oat milk op. We know why our child has trouble falling asleep , but not why they wake so frequently. It could be a mild allergy to his milk.
