Any success with Gro Clock at 2

I bought a Tommee Tippee Gro clock in the sale last year but I'm wondering if my son is too young for it yet.

My son has always slept in a very dark room with the only light being the Gro egg which he can't see and my worry is the blue light of the Gro clock might disrupt his sleep.

Also I think he is too young to understand the concept yet but would like to get him used to it for when he does.

He's been waking early for the last couple of week (5.20-5.45am) so I was going to have a go with it.

Any success stories at this age?

Mine did incredibly well with her groclock (I think she was just over 2yo). It was quite repetitive explaining she's not to wake up mummy and daddy until the clock turns yellow but after a few weeks she really got the hang of it (coupled with a sticker chart)! I would just give it a go and see how he responds, but it's not an overnight cure. In terms of the light, I was worried too so I just placed it on my daughters cabinet next to her bed so it wasn't shining in her face all night.

I started using one with DD when she moved into a bed and could get up in the night. She started going wandering I suppose because she could. She is bright and has very good speech but it wasn’t hard her for her to understand at all, she got it right away and it helped within a night or two. Even a less verbal 2yo could get it I think if it was explained very repetitively and simply. She loves putting the owl to sleep before bed. I was also a bit confused about using a blue light but it doesn’t seem to disrupt DD and I turn it down to the lowest brightness setting.

I also had a friend using one with her 18m old and he had no words at all but understood it when it was explained simply and they were consistent with not getting him up until the clock changed colour. I would definitely give it a try!

Rereading my post I realise I come across like a right pompous git. I just meant that she’s an articulate two (and was nearly 2.5 when we started with it) so it was easy to explain, and not to worry if it takes a few nights before she gets the hang of it. I’ll see myself out now.

Yeah that's just when I started using it. The most important thing is that you all obey the clock, you don't choose to override it. Otherwise your child will know they can just complain to you and you will let them get up anyway. We just said "it's not sun up time yet!" pointing at the clock. It's not hard for them to understand.

My DS is two next month and I don’t think he’d understand.

Yes, then they get quite literal with it… My 3yo DD refused to get up the other morning because ‘my sun isn’t up!’

dear reader, I’d forgotten to set it…

It never worked for my daughter, and still doesn't age 4. She just isn't interested! We've had to be really strict about her disturbing us in the mornings, otherwise we'd be up at 5 every day.

Rosieisposy · 19/11/2022 06:42

I think it must work when the child can get up themselves maybe, as DS is still in a cot. So if he wasn’t allowed to call out until the sun came up he could potentially be having to lie there for quite a while!

Never worked for us. Eldest it 11 and still gets up at 5.45am.

Yes the gro clock works a treat for us since around 2.5, would recommend to everyone.

Hi OP did you ever get a Gro Clock? I’m losing my mind getting up at 5:10 every day with DS who is 19 months.
