What actually helps babies sleep?

Looking for suggestions for spirited almost 1yo who wakes multiple times every night, sometimes for a feed, sometimes just to sit and yell usually up 1-3h a night, then wakes any time between 4-8am.

He sleeps in pitch black room in his cot in a sleeping bag. He has a duck comforter and a muslin that he snuggles, he has white noise playing and he is dream fed at 10.30pm and wakes for a feed usually 3am but can be any time (both 5oz) goes to bed at 6.30pm, we aim for wake time of 6.30am and we try to enforce two naps of 1h with suitable wake times in between. He eats OK, is very active during the day and we go for two daytime walks.

any other suggestions for things that comfort them in the night, or help with sleep very much welcome and appreciated!

We had pretty similar. It's a while ago now but I seem to remember having some success with The No Cry Sleep Solution.

How does he initially fall asleep?
I found that I didn't make any progress with sleeping through until I had managed to get them to go to sleep where they would be for the rest of the night.

We usually do bath, book and then give him his bottle. Then lay him down awake with his comforter and he will go off.

My kids slept through from six months - certainly didn't get fed overnight after that. Is he not eating enough during the day?

Exworrier · 09/11/2022 20:40

@mondaytosunday He eats ok, he has improved massively since 10m and since we cut down his night time bottles from 7oz to 5oz. I think we need to drop the nightfeeds but atm it’s our only crutch to get him to go back down.

Only thing that makes unsleeping babies sleep is stopping feeding them in the night.

If you breastfed / are bfing, having the other parent do all night waking and offering water and cuddles can cut them out.
Post dinner yoghurt can also help.
