How do you sleep train when you need to be out and about?

We sleep trained DC1 using the ferber method when she was 6mo and it worked a charm. We started one night and then went straight into naps the next day and she was trained so quickly but it took about 2 weeks for it to become embedded. It was easy to do because it was lockdown so we spent all our time at home. Fast forward and now thinking to train DC2 but it's just not possible to have every nap in the house when I have DC1 to look after. Will the ferber method still work if its not done in a consistent block? I don't want to start training and it not work and then have to do it again. Any advice?

Maybe maybe not. I think its going to depend on your lo. Ferber is teaching lo to self soothe independently. So if lo can grasps that, then it is hopeful that lo grasps it at any point of the day anywhere.

However you have to take outside factors in such as environment, stimulation and such. My lo has to be absolutely knackered to go to sleep in another environment other then her cot and she can completely self soothe.

It'll be slower going. We put DD1 in nursery an extra 2 days for one week (usually only did 3 days) and then did Ferber with DD2 to crack the naps. Now she generally has one nap in her cot and one on the go. The cot nap at home is a great opportunity to spend some actual quality time with DD1.

@MolliciousIntent out of interest how old was your LO? Were you strict about only sleeping in the cot for the week of sleep training? We don't have the luxury of nursery right now so I'm trying to work out how to do it!

@ChittyBang1987 DC2 is a pretty good sleeper but he won't go to sleep independently which is why I plan to sleep train. Its just so tough to get him down when DC1 needs attention and ends up waking him up!

How about not leaving your tiny defenceless baby to fry themselves to sleep!

No one is suggesting cooking an infant, chill out.

@MolliciousIntent thank you for this!

Just realised I never replied to this! She was just over 6m and yeah we were pretty strict that week, at least one nap per day in the cot, and we did Ferber as I said so it was very intense, but it was over quickly!
