Long Sleeved Sleep Bag

Are they safe? I seen one in Next but was reluctant to buy it as I don't see them very often and I'm not sure if they're safe. We live in a cold house and DS's room feels chilly at night, he's currently in a vest, pjs, 2.5 tog. I notice if his room drops below 18 he wakes.

How old is he? I don't think they are recommended for babies but might be suitable for an older child. Would a long sleeved top under the sleeveless bag work?

Bobbybobbins · 06/11/2022 23:29

Sorry just seen you've put pjs!

I'm not a fan of anything that stops a baby from moving freely. If long sleeved sleep bag has separate arms with cuffs it sounds ok but if it traps arms into main bag not so keen.

He's 11 months. The one I've seen the arms aren't detachable. Maybe I'll just pop a long sleeved vest on under his pjs instead of a short sleeved one.

Jojo do ones with detachable arms that would mean you could just add them on very, very cold nights, more versatile than the next version.

My DSis used their suits (with arms and legs) for her two in their old house when they were toddlers, but I never felt the need to with DD as our new build never got that cold. DD has always been a hot bod too. Really depends on your house and if your wee one feels the cold, although I would probably forgo a vest underneath the ones with arms.

I don't think bags with sleeves are supposed to be used for sleeping. I know the grobag ones are specifically made without sleeves so there is still airflow. You can use long sleeved bodysuits, plus babygros and even a cardigan for extra warmth

I had one from vertbaudet which had detachable sleeves and also the main bag was made of a 1 tog and 2.5 tog which could be combined.

We have a 3.5 tog slumbersac bag with long sleeves and my daughter sleeps well in it - I often felt she was otherwise getting chilly in the night. I think sizing is probably important though - she's 15months in a 6-18month bag - it would have been too big on her under 1y/o and she's a high centiles baby.
