What to dress a 1 year old in for bed?

Temperature currently only drops to about 19c but will likely go lower in the coming weeks. He's in long sleeve pyjamas or a footless romper with a 2.5 tog sleeping bag. He doesn't feel cold to touch but the room feels cool to me and I like to be toasty! He wakes super early but I'm not sure if that's the temperature or not.

When would you add another layer, eg vest? Do yours wear socks?

If he doesn't feel cold to the Touch ID stick with what you're doing already but I'd probably add a vest.

If his feet are cold I'd up the tog but personally wouldn't add socks, but each to their own! 19 degrees is warm x

Yes to vest, preferably long sleeved, and socks.

im a childminder, and a child I look after had a sleep consultant when they were a baby, and that sleep consultant said a child’s feet should always be covered with socks, no matter what the temperature is outside. According to her it was the secret to sleep 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t know if I agree…

It gets so cold in the morning, that used to wake up my little one. We used to add socks and a vest. For my other baby we used to have a long sleeved sleeping bag as he has a super cold room! They like to be warm so worked for us

I added a vest last night and he slept the longest he has in months. And woke up happy. He’s playing in his cot right now. Honestly it’s normally 530, and we’re now almost at 7! Not counting my chickens yet but he’ll be in a vest from now on.

I don't think I agree with the sock thing either!

I would go for vest, long sleeved PJs and graduate to blankets when able to walk, but that's just me.

Mine is in short sleeve vest, pj's no socks and not particularly thick, 1 tog sleeping bag and a blanket tucked round his legs. Seems totally fine?

mummyh2016 · 05/11/2022 07:51

Long sleeved vest, sleepsuit or pyjamas and sleeping bag.

Oh I like the sound of that!! Definitely trying a vest tonight then.

Hmm not heard that before! Maybe I'll try it when it gets a bit colder. Personally I hate socks in bed but if it gets him to sleep longer I'll give anything a go.

Thanks everyone, I'll definitely try a vest and see how he does with that.

We do long sleeve pjs. Sleep suit 2.5tog with feet. Socks (though she pulls hers off at some point). We have heating set to come on at 20 degrees early morning about 330am and we had longer sleeps in general. Depends what your baby likes. If we put more layers on shes more restless. 20 month old here.
