HELP! Getting no sleep with teething 5 month old

My nearly 5 month old has been an okish sleeper - goes down by himself and sleeps from 7.30 to 7.30 waking up once or twice for milk and goes straight back down. 4 month regression was hard but we got through it but have now been confronted with his first tooth. Last night he barely slept at all. Will nod off from rocking or feeding and will wake up 15 minutes later screaming so much and the cycle continues. We're now on night 2 and seems to be the same. His naps were terrible today too.

It's definitely teething - he's pressing hard on his gum and brings our finger to his gum and his crying sounds like he's in pain. There's also a very clear white dot on surface of gum and it feels ever so slightly sharp so think it'll emerge any time now. Also he's become congested today. Our older son always seemed to get a cold at the same time as teething.

Our first son was no way near as bothered about teething as this baby.

We've been alternating calpol and nurofen but it's really not working at all.

Anyone else experienced zero sleep during teething and how long did it last? Hopeful that because we can see the tooth it'll be a matter of days.

It's making me feel so sad him crying so desperately and also I'm not functioning well on lack of sleep. He's also lost his voice from last night's screaming so when he's screaming tonight it's very hoarse and strained.

Currently going through it too with our 9 month old. Hideous. No tips, just that it's awful.

Hope it improves for you soon.

Teething solidarity! It lasts until the tooth is through unfortunately...... depends how long that takes but at least two nights and sometimes longer.

Try the following: teething powders, teething gel on a baby toothbrush (or your finger), giving pain relief before 'sleep', cold teethers in the fridge, make baby ice lollies, chew on a wet flannel, Sophie la giraffe! At least then you have stuff to do whilst losing your mind. You never know what will work, keep trying!

Thank you. I've tried all of those things and I find some of them help very temporarily.
Guess it's just a case of riding it out.
I panic about lack of sleep (for both of us) and it's so hard caring for him and our 3.5 year old!

Oh god, awful. How long until relief? Have you got a tooth through now? Anything help?

Absenol teething liquid helps a lot. Possibly tilting his cot as well as when they lie down flat it's more painful. Sounds brutal for you both. Hope the tooth appears soon!

Fortunately we only had 2 bad nights. The teeth hasn't completely come through but we can see it there and it definitely protrudes through his gum so he must be through the worst of it! When you're in the thick of it it feels like it's going to be forever 😂

Since then his sleep has been better (either sleeping through or waking up just once).

Thanks for the support.
