Baby keeps pulling dummy out and then cries for it

My baby is just coming up to 17 weeks. I have been trying to get her out of being swaddled (she does not roll yet) but I know as soon as she can roll she needs to be out of it. However my baby only sleeps with her dummy until she’s in a deep enough sleep for it to drop it, then when her arms are free she self soothes herself by stroking her face which ultimately pulls out her dummy. Most of the time she falls asleep on me and I put her down but it wakes her up, not enough for her to cry to be picked up again but enough for her to start putting her hands on her face again and pulling the dummy out. I only ever sleep well when she is swaddled because of this issue. As soon as the dummy is out she will cry for it. She’s not old enough to grab it and put it back in yet. Any advice on what I can do?

Twas ever thus.

Answer - lots and lots of dummies so you can find one quickly even if she cant

No advice really cos we have similar problems. DS will only sleep with his dummy, it normally drops out when he's in a deep sleep but he will often wake up crying for it. It can be a nightmare getting him back to sleep after that 🙄 I remember him constantly waking up when I put him down too. He's 16 months now and the only real solution to that has been co sleeping. It's always something I swore I wouldn't do, but it was the only way anyone could get any sleep in the end!

Lots of dummies. Stash them everywhere. One morning I found six under my baby with another three next to her. Embrace the multiple dummies ❤

Dummies everywhere. Mine sleeps with about 15 of the damn things. The time will eventually come where she can find one in her cot if it falls out.

This is in active so that's the only reason I've come across it. Intrigued though, do people actually buy 15 dummies and put them all in the cot? Surely sleeping on several dummies will make it pretty uncomfortable and wake them up?

Yup loads of dummies everywhere and at some point they find one themselves

I don't put them in like a bed of nails 😅 the cot is huge and he is small. I put them around the top near his head. Sometimes I hear him stir and shuffle about, find one and go back to sleep. He sleeps through the night now.

This is why I got rid of the dummy, my daughter was slightly older tho, and I replaced with a comforter.

Yes to buying.

No to putting them in all at once. Baby cries, you can't find it immediately so you get another. Baby cries again, you can't find it without pulling baby and bed to pieces so you get another. Repeat continuously until morning.

No, it never wakes them up surprisingly enough otherwise you wouldn't have to buy 15 of the darn things. They hide everywhere including in your slipper. Babies sleep through things adults can't but cannot sleep through normal stuff. It's a thing.

I know that much, I do have kids they're just way beyond this stage. I was just intrigued by the scattering dummies in the cot, seems that's a thing! Neither of mine had a dummy so I've never really thought about it.

I think at the time that the dummy starts causing issues it makes sense to take it away.
