Tips for baby to sleep longer?

Any tips for getting baby to sleep for longer stints in his crib? struggling with the lack of sleep now 🙈

He's 8 weeks old and breastfed. He sleeps in a chicco next to me crib with all sides up and not attached to the bed. He's still under 8lbs so too small for a sleeping bag so he has a blanket which is well tucked in under the mattress. He has a dummy. I always place him on his back but he ends up on his side and pushed up against the side of the crib (which worried me at first until I saw a post on here which explained how the sides are breathable).

The longest he's ever slept in it is about 2hr 50 but lately he's been sleeping less than an hour each time and then can take up to an hour and a half to go back down by the time he's been fed and changed. I obviously don't expect him to be sleeping through the night yet and don't mind being woken a few times in the night but it seems to be getting worse and worse 😫 he sleeps for longer periods through the day so why can't he do it at night? 🥺🤔

This was his sleep last night.

It's tough as you must feel so sleep deprived yourself. I would try a swaddle instead of a blanket, white noise and more milk (if they take it).
Longer stretches WILL happen.

And plenty of exposure to natural light and fresh air in the daytimes.

I didn't want to read and run my DD2 is 5 weeks so at a similar stage to you.

Is he feeding every time he wakes? Can you try settle with dummy/cuddle if he's only fed an hour or so before.
Are you changing at every feed? I change at first feed (before feeding so she gets sleepy when feeding and can put her down) but wouldn't change again unless there's a poo/nappy feels particularly fat.
Do you use white noise? White noise works well for us at night. We play it through an Alexa.
Swaddle? Although if he's rolling on his side this may not be a good option.
Keep things dark at night and limited interaction with lots of light through the day.

Sorry if you're doing all of these things just thought I'd share some things that work for us. We have 3-4 hour wake ups but have had two nights where she slept 6 hours. Just need to work out how to recreate those nights Grin

This, even if you put his Moses basket in the window. Try offering milk really often during the day too.

Get a blackout blind.

Time and a purflo nest is what worked for mine. He slept in our arms for the first 5 weeks, then I got a purflo and the first time I put him in it he managed a 20 minute nap which was the longest he’d ever slept without being held! From there it just got better and better. I think he liked being able to feel the sides when he stretched out and his actual cot was just too roomy. I first had it on the bed next to me (on our spare bed, it wouldn’t fit with two adults) and eventually moved it into his cot.

Im aware that nests aren’t officially recommended but the purflo is tested to the same standards as Moses baskets and pram carrycots so as I was comfortable using either of those then I should be ok with the purflo too.
