My 6 week old will only sleep in the sling day or night. I have tried everything dark room Ewan the dream sheep won't sleep in pram or swing or cot at all cant get her to go asleep in there and can't transfer her either. I don't know what to do I have tried transferring her at 40 mins but she just wakes up every single time. we have tried getting her to sleep in the cot and pram she will close her eyes for barely two seconds is content for us to try for up to an hour then goes into hysterics. I don't know what method to use to get her to finally sleep somewhere other than on my chest. In 6 weeks I have tickets to a show and I can't leave her for the 3 hours if she won't sleep anywhere but on me...

Have you tried safe cosleeping in bed overnight? Who is looking after her when you are out? Can't they use the sling? DD2 slept mainly in sling first 10 weeks and now sleeps okay in pram if it's moving but she hated it previously!

The only method that worked with mine was time, and as soon as we accepted that and came up with coping strategies instead of trying fruitlessly to put him down to sleep everything got better, we took shifts overnight and planned in adult nap times during the day, and stopped stressing about getting baby to sleep in the cot. Then from about 8 weeks or so he was ok sleeping in a purflo nest for short times overnight which gradually got longer.

Thank u for replying. Think I'll give up until 8 weeks and then see if any change. It's also knowing there development I don't want to keep trying aswell if she just hasn't got that capability yet.

Agree with everyone here.

I was so stressed about DD1's sleep and scared of SIDs that me and my hubby would do shifts at night so she could sleep on someone whilst the other slept.

I eventually started cosleeping with her around 7 weeks.

DD2 is 4 weeks old and exactly the same. Only wants to sleep on my chest. I wear a sling during the day and at night I simply lay her beside me and breastfeed. She doesn't do as long stretches when laying next to me (2 hours max) but it's better than me falling asleep with her on my chest.

I just want to add that I stressed so much about DD1s sleep/nap routine that it led me to having PPD. I was following all the wrong accounts on Instagram that claimed I'd be making a 'rod for my back' by cosleeping and supporting my child to sleep.

Just go with the flow.

Even if you end up cosleeping way past a year old, it doesn't matter.

DD1 is 18 months now and I miss the nighttime cuddles. Now she just wants her space.

But what do you do when you go on evenings out?
I can't co sleep with her I tried once in the bed supervised by my partner and didn't go well not risking it again.
I have to sleep in a reclined chair her in sling with owlet. I know it's not the safest but otherwise I would never sleep.
The mother in law I don't think will wear the sling when she has her for the evening. 😥

I dont have much advice im afraid but I would try transferring after 10 mins or so. Their sleep cycles are 40-45 mins long at that point so by transferring at 40 mins you are getting them at a point where they are in a light sleep and so more likely to wake

Marmee53 · 12/10/2022 17:24

So once she was fast asleep, I'd leave the room.

She would do about 3 hours before waking up, sometimes even longer. When she woke up either me or hubby would go back in to settle her. If we were tired or she was hard to settle we'd just stay in bed with her (we ditched the cot very early on and put her on a double mattress).

At 18 months we still do the same. Some nights she still wakes up so hubby goes in with her and just stays there since I have DD2 now.

Also, my mum and in laws learned to put my toddler to sleep too. So if I wanted to go out either hubby or family were around.

She was about 5 months when I started to leave her for more than a couple of hours as she was exclusively breastfed up until then.

@Piglets2508 go follow @ cosleepy on IG for tips on how to make chestsleeping safer! I know that’s often like the biggest no-no when it comes to safe sleep, but it doesn’t have to be 🙂 you can remove risks and if you’re prepared to sleep with baby in your chest it’ll be a damn sight safer than doing it accidentally during a night walk up like so many of us have done! It sounds like you’ve already done a fair bit to make it as safe as possible, but it’s still nice to get some outside reassurance that you’re not definitely about to suffocate your child like some people would love to tell you.
