Baby sleepwear advice for cold nights ahead

Hi all,
I’m so sorry for the long post but I’m a first time mum looking for some advice in regards to baby sleep wear. Our daughter is 8 months old and has been sleeping really well in her own room since 6 months. I’m really worried about making sure she is warm enough throughout the night but not too hot/cold especially with winter coming up. We are yet to put the heating on this year and she has been more unsettled than usual the past couple of nights. When I have been in to check on her, her hands are like little blocks of ice! I know you should always feel their body instead of hands/head and when I do feel her body it is warm but not toasty so I have been bringing her into our bedroom so I can keep my eye on her but this results in me not sleeping. Obviously this is not ideal and I don’t want to make a habit of it as she is doing really well sleeping on her own. To make matters worse I have a Gro Egg and a baby monitor and the temperatures they show always differ by around 3 degrees, the Gro Egg is always the highest which is around the 17/18 degrees mark but the baby monitor shows 14/15 degrees. She sleeps in a vest, baby grow and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag. I can’t help but feel guilty that my partner and I are snuggled under our duvet while she is potentially cold. I have so many questions and google just seems to confuse me even more so if anyone has any advice that would be much appreciated!

Should I dress her according to the Gro egg temp or baby monitor temp?
Is what I’m dressing her in enough to keep her warm?
Should I get a 3.5 tog sleeping bag?
Do I need to switch the heating on?
Should I get some sort of small heater just for her bedroom?
is anyone else in this same position?

You do need to dress her on the cooler side as a too hot baby is much worse than a too cooler one. We can put out heating thermometer in the babies bedroom and keep it at 18 degrees so if it gets colder the heating would kick in. You also shouldn't check a babies temp using their hands, you should feel their body to sense if they're warm or not. She's under 12 months so you should really follow the gro bag guidelines 😁 xx

Mine is 11 months I do at the moment short vest then either long vest or long pj top / baby grow or oh bottoms/ socks and sock ons and a 2.5 tog when it gets really cold I will put a blanket over her too or a 3.5 tog bag or a 2.5 tog with arms in it

My babies would always wake in the night if they were too cold. Why don't you get a seperate thermometer as a bit of a sanity check. Jojo mamen bebe do excellent winter sleeping bags with sleeves that detach.

It's trial and error. Put the heating on for a little while one night before she goes to bed and see if she's more settled. Then go from there.

Agree with PP a too hot baby is worse than too cold. They can't undress themselves or kick their sleeping bag off if they're too hot. But they will let you know if they're cold and don't like it.

I’d go by the gro egg; my monitor was the same and I figured the gro egg is primarily a temperature gauge so more likely to be accurate. You don’t have to stick religiously to what the gro bag guidelines say (it’s guidelines not rules) and depends somewhat on your baby. Having said that what your baby is currently sleeping in sounds about right for the temperature but if it’s going to get colder get a thicker gro bag. Also check her room for any draughts through windows and under the door especially as cots are lower than beds

We got a 2.5 grobag with arms and it's made all the difference on those colder nights!

I used gro sleeping bags with padded arms, which seemed to help my cold baby. Few years ago now so not sure if they still do them!

Currently got my 9 month in a long sleeve vest, then babygrow and a 2.5 tog. No heating on yet. His hands are occasionally cold. His arms were cold so that why he now has a long sleeve vest. Depending on how it goes i may get another 2.5 bag with sleeves or even a 3.5 as our flat does get quite cold. I also don't like the idea of his hands being cold (yes i know its normal).
