9 Month Old - Nap

Hi

Be great to know if anyone has experienced this.

Our DS has just turned 9 months, and he has started crawling in the last week or so.

Since the crawling has started his naps have gone a bit wierd. He used to religiously have 2 naps (morning and afternoon) but hes had 1 nap per day since around 11 ish.

We try to get him down but point blank refuses (!).

Do we just go with the flow? He doesnt show tired signs. Its all very new!

If lo isn't overtired, eating well, not awake for hours in night, not struggling to go sleep etc. Go with it. But if lo starts being overtired I would say it's too much for lo.

How long were the naps and how long is the nap now?

Coates1989 · 26/09/2022 21:13

Thanks both for responding.

@LapinR0se so it does depend. Could literally be anything between 45 mins (although rare) to 2 hours.

@LapinR0se also prior to the change he used to have 45 mins in the morning and 1.5 hours afternoon.

If they aren't sleepy, they aren't sleepy! I just go with the flow. Obviously you will know if he really needs a nap but if he fights it, just forget it until he's ready

When babies learn a new skill it throws sleep way off as their bodies want to keep practising (same with rolling, sitting, pulling to stand etc).

He still needs proper sleep and your best bet is to really stay consistent with nap timing.

9 month old routine
7am milk
8.30am breakfast and play
9.20-10am nap 1 (always up by 10 regardless of how long the nap was)

12 noon protein-based lunch
12.45-2.45pm nap (always up by 3pm regardless of how long the nap was)

3pm milk

5.30pm carb-based dinner

6pm bath

6.30pm milk

7pm bed

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy Thanks, this is the approach we have to go with for now - putting him down when hes not ready turns into hysterics!

@LapinR0se thats a rough schedule we went with but over the last week it just hasnt worked and is all over the place. Wakes up around 6.30/7am, just not ready to nap until Midday at the very earliest. And that really can depend in length.
