Does anyone know how to get rid of monsters from ds bedroom?

They usually show up at 2.30am. He goes to bed fine after a routine of teeth, wee, story, bed. Gets off to sleep alone but wakes at 2.30 ish and wants to get into our bed. Used to let him but now he is nearly 3 he is getting too big to sleep with. Last night he was really scared and get very upset when I took him back to his room. He says there are monsters in his room. I know saying "there is no such thing as monsters" is no good and I have read some really good advice from people in the past (not my threads just lurking iyswim)but can't remember it now. How do you bust those 2am monsters?

My DD has a book called Emily Brown and the MOnster which is brilliant. My friend, who's DS was in a similar situation, had the monster send her DS a postcard and a packet of sweets saying I've gone to live somewhere else and I'm sorry you were frightened of me. I just wanted to be friends etc...
Good luck!

Oh Scootergrrrl - That is so sweet. Now if DS were older that would be great but I think he's a bit young to take that one in. The toilet flushing and spraying did a good job last night so fingers crossed.

I used to open the wardrobe door (the only place they could have been) and shoo them out each night "come on monsters, ds doesn't want you in his bedroom at night time, off you go.". Seemed to work.

My dd's teddy has magic powers that I gave him - he is empowered to scare off all monsters and he stays awake all night to do it - that's why he needs to stay in bed all day to recover !

He works - he really really does. Apart from when he had 'flu and had a night off recently - but he is only human !

well, ALL your children are lucky to have such lovely mummies (and daddies)

my mum told me a bad man lived under my bed and would get me by grabbing my ankles if i got out after bedtime- i used to try and leap 15 feet to the door its amazing i never broke my ankle.

i started to wet the bed as i daren't get out- she never made the connection..

i was 30 before i could get out of bed without holding my breath

hiya. try spraying air freshener or something similar around the door/window. tell him its magic spray to keep the monsters away
other then that, let him in your bed -and you go in his.thats what happens in our house

Ahhhh Spongecake - that was mean - my Mum was like that too - spent most of my childhood being afraid of what might happen if I stepped out of line !

We used to beat them up with a poker and throw them out of the window a la Terry Pratchett's Hogfather (before he'd written it incidentally).

haven't read all the posts so forgive me if I repeat something that someone else said.

But, when dd2 went through this stage, we bought her a monster of her own to take to bed with her to protect her from the other monsters.

her monster looked after her and if any not so nice monsters came into her room, then hers shooed them away.

It seemed to work.

I've had some serious words with monsters in my time. I stood outside dd's room and really told one monster off once for scaring her and I even threatened to tell his mummy. He packed his bag and left in tears.

ok ds has a mike off monsters ink so I tried saying he could take that to bed and he would protect him but he got really upset saying that the teddy was not real and the monsters in his wall are.

So ended up spraying room wih a bit of air freshener and this evening when he was having a conversation with the elephant flannel he started talking about the monsters and the elephant (aka me) behind the door with the thing on my hand the elephant said ah but your mummy sprayed the room last night with majic monster spray and he said oh yes they've all gone now haven't they.

So hopefully that will be the end of that.
