He had less than an hour today for his nap (usually has 1.5/2.0) he was so tired by 5, so gave him a quick bath and then put him to bed and he was asleep by 5:15. Does this mean a nightmare night of him waking constantly as he's over tired?

You might get lucky and he sleeps but he will wake up early tomorrow. What time does he usually go to bed?

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 26/08/2022 17:40

I'd be more worried he'll be up for the day at 3am tomorrow! Fingers crossed it works out.

Mrsjayy · 26/08/2022 17:44

If he wakes in an hour or so just get him up I know it's a pain but let him run about for a couple of hours and go for a later bed time.

firsttimemummy40 · 26/08/2022 17:47

He usually goes to bed around 6/7 (sometimes a bit later if he sleeps in longer and naps are later)

He usually wakes up around 5/6 so I'm used to early wake ups, but I'm thinking it's going to be one of those nights. My partner is away for 4 nights playing golf, so I'm on my own.

A glass of wine is needed I think - just to prep for the potential s**t show ahead. Ha

@Mymoneydontjigglejiggle me too!! Waaahhh!

That's what I'm thinking, but if I go in and he's not up for being awake I'll have to resettle him back. Oh Lordy!

It's the granny's fault, it's her day today! Ha

they won’t necessarily wake early. When my son was going from 2-1 naps we had several 5:30 bedtimes and it saw him through til 6:30. He just needed to catch up. Might mean the same for you. I’d get an early night though just incase 😃

YellowTreeHouse · 26/08/2022 17:49

If it happens in future just keep to your usual bedtime. My daughter never naps longer than 40 minutes and she’s 20 months. Gets up 6.30am, bed at 7.

firsttimemummy40 · 26/08/2022 17:52

@Yabbadubba he's literally only been on one nap consistently for about a week and a half, so I'm hoping you're right.

I think a glass of wine, a quick catch up on my series and off to bed I go. Usually if he's overtired he wakes up after 45 mins, but goes back. If he does the hour, I'm on to a winning streak for perhaps the next 3/4 hours 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Gosh, who'd have thought sleep would be the bane of my life 😂

HA blame Granny 😃

Marinamountainzoo · 26/08/2022 18:45

My youngest stopped napping completely at 18 months.

Just leave him be and if he wakes up, resettle him for the night.

ChittyBang1987 · 26/08/2022 18:48

It might mean a split night 🤷‍♀️ usually what happens for us when lo is overtired for us.

firsttimemummy40 · 26/08/2022 18:50

@ChittyBang1987 yes, he's woken up for the 2nd time now and each time I've managed to settle him back down.

Xx

@Marinamountainzoo

He's woken twice and like you said I've just resettled. He's not up for being awake, he's just overtired.

When we dropped to 1 nap. We had about a month of overtiredness and waking, disturbed nights. Intially i gave up to 2.5 to 3 hours in day to combat overtiredness. Then amazingly for my lo has NEVER done more then 10 to 10.5 hours at night suddenly doing 11 to 13 hours. Nap between 1230/1245 to when she likes usually 230pm to 3pm. It's shocking. Keep going. It gets better xx

firsttimemummy40 · 26/08/2022 20:32

We've had such an awful time for months when he was teething, learning to walk and dropping a nap. I'm kind of hoping the nap drop will help the nights. He has never slept through anyway, but it's got better!

Let's see what tonight brings! 😱😱

Mrsjayy · 27/08/2022 10:38

How was your night ?

firsttimemummy40 · 27/08/2022 14:44

@Mrsjayy

He woke up after an hour, but I got him straight back. He then woke up after 10 mins, but got him back down. He then slept for 7 hours. The issue was when he woke up at 1, he woke up a few times so I put him in bed with me, but he was such a fidget I think we just kept disturbing each other.

He woke @ 5 and had a nap at 10 for 90 mins, so I think it's going to be another early night! 😬😬

ChittyBang1987 · 27/08/2022 15:25

Think I would be tempted to give an afternoon nap about now for an 45 mins to an hour. Or might end up in a cycle or waking at 5am. But that's me. Sleep till 430pm. Then bed about 8pm. Shortening the window down for overtiredness then hoping sleeps in later eventually.

firsttimemummy40 · 27/08/2022 16:44

@ChittyBang1987

The issue is, he wakes up at 5/5:30 regardless. Unfortunately he's just one of those children who seem to not need as much sleep as others. I did try and put him down and he's just not up for it. He just wants to run around and play! Ha.

I think once he's back at nursery on Tuesday we will be back to our usual routine. I'm taking this as a blip 😂😂

ChittyBang1987 · 27/08/2022 16:47

Wow that's an early one 😳

firsttimemummy40 · 27/08/2022 17:03

@ChittyBang1987 a handful of occasions he's done later, but it's usually between 5 and 6, but I would say 70% more 5am!

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 27/08/2022 18:07

Ouch 5 am I hope he goes a little later tonight.

firsttimemummy40 · 27/08/2022 18:18

@Mrsjayy I'm used to it. I'm used to feeling like a zombie 24/7 - I just tell myself it's not forever.

I put him down at 6 tonight, so a bit closer to his normal bedtime!

Wish me luck!
