Four month old sleep advice

Hello all, just looking for a bit of advice on sleeping for a four month old. I'm a FTM so still getting used to things!

DD is really good with sleep, on a night she has her last bottle at 9.30/10pm and goes straight to sleep, sleeping through til 7am when we get up.

I keep seeing all these articles about "bed time" for a four month old being 7pm and I'm now wondering what others experiences are of this? She doesn't really have a nap schedule either - she tends to have a little nap on a morning, an afternoon and then an evening but no "routine" of these so to speak, the naps tend to occur at slightly different times each day and are of varying lengths. But her night time sleep tends to remain the same.

I don't want to force her into a routine of course, so just wondering if anyone could share any stories of how and when their baby fell into a sleep routine by themselves? Just seems to me like a 7pm bedtime for a four month old might be a bit unrealistic but then again I have no real idea!

my son went to bed at around 7 or 8 at that age but woke up every 45 minutes all night long, so maybe I should have done a later bedtime! You’ve got an absolute dream of a baby sleeping through at 4m… I wouldn’t be rocking that boat!

Honestly, if your baby is happy, eating well, growing, thriving, and the routine works for you, there's no need to change it up! Go with the flow. Mine is almost 2 now and has always been a good sleeper - we never did anything to facilitate it, just followed his cues for naps and bedtime and he naturally fell into a sleep pattern.

His bedtime now is 7, but there was definitely a period where it was 10pm and then 9 and then 8 and then we settled on 7, so as his naps changed and he needed less daytime sleep, so did his bedtime.

It sounds like she's doing really well!

I cannot believe 4 months old go to bed at 7pm! Mine was going to bed at 10 pm too at that age but after the "regression" definitely needed an earlier bedtime as knackered at 8pm. Your baby is sleeping 9 hours a night at a time when you are too. Well within parameters and sounds like everyone is getting some sleep!

Thanks for your responses everyone! I was worrying I was doing something wrong when I saw 7pm bedtime keep getting mentioned. How did you all find daytime naps at that age? I've heard about the regression but no signs of it quite yet I don't think...I'm sure it's probably on its way!

Hi, I’m a FTM to a 16 week old DD and she is/was a great nighttime sleeper, similar schedule to your DD really and had slept through more often than not until 6-7am. I always said I was v lucky though.

Now the dreaded regression has hit! I’ve always had to follow wake windows carefully to ensure naps happen (with
some flexibility to leave the house etc) as DD was becoming very overtired and cranky. She now screams before any sleep, and it’s now taken nearly an hour to get her to sleep, with some real screaming. I’m hoping this doesn’t last too long as it’s so hard 🥺.
